Drug Stash Hidden In Maldivian Mosque

Police have found a drug stash hidden in a light pole on the ground of a Male’ mosque, reports Minivan News. According to the website, 54 drug bullets were found at Thaquvaa mosque in Henveiru yard on Monday by police. The case is being investigated but no arrests have been made.

Imam Mohamed Shareef said there were gangs who often loitered behind the mosque. “They do all kinds of bad things. It might have been one of them.”

He added the gangs disturbed those praying. “Sometimes I feel as if it’s difficult to pray because of all their noises. They shout and they scream.”

Litter and graffiti (pic) were also problems. Empty cans and bottles, discarded pill packs and cigarette butts covered the area behind the mosque.

“To clear the walls we used to paint over the graffiti but it never takes long before they spray over it again,” said Shareef. One mosque-goer, who wished to remain anonymous, said the gangs were involved in “illegal activities” but did not elaborate.

In February 2007, a man was arrested for using drugs inside toilet at Jalaaludheen mosque in Male’. Last year a young boy and a middle-aged man was arrested inside the Viyafaariveringe Mosque after midnight, having homosexual sex. One wonders whether this is the legacy that Gayyoom wished to leave behind as he concluded his three-decade-long rule in the country.

why the hell do u blame everything on the former president? isn't there the society's role on that? It's easy to blame someone and say it will never go away now that its started... the perfect excuse for the current govt. to dictate.

Bushry, please bring to a halt talking in relation to maumoon at the moment, we have by now rejected him, so it’s healthier to speak on the subject in present tense. as of this piece of writing we identify that drugs are in abundance, so the issue is why is that anni not speaking about his MDPs fifth pledge?
The gentleman is at all times bluffing about “gulhilaamehi fa and 50 years resort leasing” I voted anni but it’s bizarre that nowadays I doubt that he possibly will do anything regarding his fifth pledge “masthuvaathakethi ehtere vaa dhoru bandhu kurun .. I think it’s going to be some other entrance he’s chatting about..
Bushry, have you seen any concrete step taken by this new government to stop drugs approaching in to our country. The answer is NO .. now I starting to believe the Big deceits of DRPs there are some people in MDP who likes these drugs to be smuggled in the country. Or else it’s a very simple thing, I don’t see any reason these uniformed idiots to roam around male other than to stop the flow of drugs coming to country.
Why isn’t MDP government pressuring customs, Police, immigration, MNDF , what’s the use of these organizations just to see our innocent children go astray. Earlier I thought if this maumoon the dictator goes these organizations will be working towards the security of the nation.
But they are more concerned about control of majli, with people like Ibrahim Husen zaki and amin Faisal to head the security of the nation. These are serious issue’s which will affect the result of next presidential elections. so if your so kind to our president you should criticize him more than your praise him but it should be constructive. Thank you

What can you expect in a theocratic dictatorship like this? This Maldivian democracy is a joke.

When youth are not allowed to be their natural selves the pressure will vent out in ways that will shock everyone.

We should all follow the Netherlands example and legalise soft drugs like ganja and give freedom of sexuality for everyone. That's the only way we can stop the 'evils' you describe.

Come to think of it, sex has been going inside mosques for so long. Even at the Islaamee Marukazu.

I think we should legalise same sex marriage, and let Maumoon and Bushry marry.

So wat is the fuss abt drug stashed in the mosque. Is it the mosque or the drug itself. or both combined?
ppl would not talk abt drug stashed in pay toilets. Now mosques are the safest resorts to do drugs i guess.
We are talking and trying to quick fix the syptoms of a major desease that has been created long time back (nothing to do with Politics). We have to see the root cause of it and dig deep in the heart of the epidemic to find a solution. Poverty, lack of knowledge and recreations, supression on faith, social obligations, living conditions(which come in poverty i guess) etc could be considered as the root causes. We need to solve the problem not deal with it. What we see is politicians dealing with problem by sentencing the drug trafficers, users etc. to solve the problem, we do not need much politics, we need wisdom and knowledge and a purpose in each and every single life of Maldivians. Do you want a drug, crime free community:
    - Work hard on eradicating the poverty,
    - by eradicating the wealth gap, and distributing countries wealth equally.
    - Improve/reform our education system along with retarted (current) media (most significantly TVM, DhiTV and radio channels).
    - Change the social values and principles and beliefs in our society,
    - Eradicate the bigotry and theocracy.
    - Rehab all the current victims after we have achieved all above.

Lets assume that in a country where there is much freedom, there will lots of options for recreation and entertainment. Each and every individual will be concentrated on their life, to improve it day by day and will have no time to talk about others or think of suicide. Media will be much active and respectively our knowledge will be up to date.

These gangs are big trouble to the society and economy. Government spends more to prisoners than the innocent civilians who live peacefully. The gang guys keep going in and getting out of jail while the sum of money government spends for each prisoner is equivalent of a scholarship in malaysia. Why dont we send them to India on one-way ticket and let them lost?
