Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, on Thursday (08th January) withdrew a defamation lawsuit against the Adhaalath Party president Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed on Wednesday, who last year claimed Gayyoom was not a Sunni Muslim, according to the civil court.
Gayyoom started civil proceedings against Sheikh Rasheed two days before the country’s first multi-party presidential elections, after Sheikh Rasheed repeatedly alleged the former president was an “infidel” and not a Sunni Muslim; a pre-requisite for the presidency.
A press release issued by the secretariat of the former president said Gayyoom had intended to sue Sheikh Rasheed to stop him from spreading false information, which was damaging to both his reputation and his presidential campaign.
“The case was not lodged against anyone in particular,” the statement reads. “The case was filed because many of his supporters had asked him to take action.”
It adds that following the end of the elections, pursuing the lawsuit would be in vain.
According to Sheikh Rasheed, Gayyoom has withdrawn the case because he did not think he could win. “He is scared,” he said. “He knows we will prove he is not a Sunni Muslim.”
Sheikh Rasheed had previously said Gayoom was not a Sunni Muslim because he did not believe in headscarves for women, the return of Jesus Christ, the appearance of the Dhajjal or the anti-Christ and Islamic penal laws, all of which must be upheld according to the Sunni school of Islam. Last year, 44 religious scholars issued a fatwa against Gayoom asking him to “repent and fear Allah”.
Maumoon”s heart is hardened by his own selfishness, if he’s a good person he’ll be doing more of religious good deed before death, reason: Death does not terminate man’s life. (I am in no doubt, maumoon know this well although the gluttony of this world is so much so that he’s been blinded) .

They are well aware that accumulated wealth, such as an overflowing bank account, luxury cars or mansions, will not be accepted as a ransom from eternal punishment. Furthermore, neither family nor one's dearest friends will be present to save one from eternal grief. On the contrary, every soul will try to save itself. Yet despite all this, most people assume that this life does not continue on to the hereafter, and greedily embrace this world. Allah states this in the verse below:
Mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things), until you visit the graves. (Surat at-Takathur: 1-2)
Actions of this man (maumoon 75 year old ) islam (beautiful and divine religion Allah swa) has become a joke to most of the youth in Maldives. ( Adhaalath party maintain your excellent effort in particular , shaheem and majid )

None of us like Gayoom. He was rejected by the people despite his 30 year rule. We could have done this 25 years ago, if he had allowed the people to exercise their rights. Most of the people hate him. He is a monster.

He has done enough damage to this country we all love. He had siphoned all the money of this land as it belongs to his grand father. He has killed several people, destroyed thousands of families and wasted our money as no body's business.
I can't wait for a day when this guy will plead to Anni to save his ass.
Poor Gayoom. I hope he will start going to the Masjid and behave like Abdul Hannan Haleem. Let this people at DRP tell him, we don't need you any more as the people are tired of him. "I take full responsibility of the loss of the recent election", Gayoom said, but he forgot to add that I am leaving this party to ask forgiveness from the families whom I have destroyed.

there is an interesting peiece of news in that article saying he was involved in forming supreme court, no wonder it has judges who are puppets of drp and politics.

Thanks for the article. It's a load of crap what the Sheikh said. How can you prove anything about someone's beliefs. By those standards (belief about scarves, etc) more than half of the Maldivian population is not Sunni, including the current Muslim. I can't help but laugh at those parliamentarians who come up with this sunni shit in Maldives consitution.
