Anni is surprisingly talking some nonsense!
Mohamed Nasheed (Anni), former chairperson of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, has said he will devolve power to his party if he is elected president of the Maldives later this year. Speaking to Minivan News, Anni has said that "it is not a president you are electing, it is a party", adding that the party should decide policy and be able to control the leadership. With respect, Anni, this is rubbish. The people of this country, in a referendum, rejected “Barlamaanee” system of government and opted for a “Riyaasee” system. We need a capable and decisive executive-President who can lead without much fuss – not someone who will delegate powers to an abstract party and hide behind a facade. Pls don’t take this comment as a personal attack Anni, but really think about what u r saying. Don’t take the electorate to be fools Anni.
Bushry, this sure looks a personal issue against Anni. I do not know what it is about. Maybe its in your effort to express loyalty to the brother from the atoll.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, what was your point? Do you meant to say that political party is now irrelevant? mmm... If I am not mistaken, your one among many who cried foul on having a strong executive, and advocated all the reasons why we should have a plural political party system.
To deliver the potential benefits of political parties they should have space and strength in dictating policies, and it should not be rested with a strong executive. As I see countries that are struggling to cope with strong executives are failing to produce an impact in their countries. Take the case of Indonesia, the dilemma the party's have to go through because the executive is in effect not accountable to the affilitated party. Unfortunately, the new Constitution in Maldives has borrowed much from their failed system.
Bushry, my take on the issue is, if we are to practice party system then they should have the role to function effectively. And I see Anni making a very sensible point. All the while we were complaining about a strong executive, and so with the new system, the party's should be the tool in laying policies, not an individual.
It all enforces my confidence on Anni, after all he is able to grasp the concept of governing systems, and is able to see things at far distance then those trailing behind him in seeking presidency.
And while being a bloke from Addu and being proud to be part of it, it makes it easy to support this man. Thumbs up to Anni.
The person who ruled a dictatorship within the party, definitely cannot rule the country with others ideas. This is just false promise that Anni did as did before, to grab the presidency. We do not have faith in him. We support Munawwar and hopefully he will be the next president.
