Listening to the press briefing given by Home Minister Gasim, to explain his reasons for sending riot police to control the protest by the staff of Reethirah, I noticed the following points:
1. Gasim mentioned the Reethirah-Resort’s owner - Moho’s - name more than seven times in the press briefing! It was obvious that Gasim’s arm was either twisted by Moho or that Moho’s instructions were more important for Gasim than that of the President!!! Why else would Gasim send riot police to remove 10 staff that Moho says were sacked by the resort? He could have sent normal police personnel instead of sending riot police with pepper spray and shields.
2. Asked whether he consulted President Nasheed (who was touring Addu Atoll at the time) before he sent the riot police to the resort, Gasim said that he saw no reason why he had to consult the president on the matter.
Some people argue that Gasim could be collaborating with the ex-regime of Gayyoom (and DRP) to discredit the current government of Nasheed. It is because of such collaboration, they argue, that Gasim took the “calculated” decision to send riot police to breakup a legitimate protest by a union of workers.3. Gasim was also at a loss to explain why the Commissioner of Police (Faseeh) wasn’t present at the press briefing.
It has to be noted that the current Police Commissioner (Faseeh) was a loyal supporter of Gayyoom before the change of government and that Faseeh hasn’t done or said anything that would suggest otherwise even after the change of government. So, one could assume that he could still be a Gayyoom supporter. Hence Faseeh could very well make a decision to send riot police to the resort even though any sane person cannot understand why riot police with pepper spray and shields should go to a resort to remove some staff that were protesting to get their rights under the law.
4. The resort management said that ten of those staff was sacked, and Gasim said that he was asked by Moho to remove the sacked staff from the resort. Why the rush from Gasim to grant Moho’s wish without thinking rationally or without consulting the president?
5. It has to be noted that Gasim’s relative (Abdullah Riyaz) is also a high-ranking officer at the Police. One wonders how much he was involved in the decision to send the riot police and to use force to charge, arrest and handcuff some of the protesters.
5. A proper investigation needs to be done to ascertain why the Home Minister didn’t consult the president and to ascertain what role Faseeh and Riyaz played in this. 6. It is obvious to everyone that Gasim has presidential ambitions. He could stand to achieve that ambition if the current government fails. Also, the parliamentary elections are coming up in February and any stains on president Nasheed’s government would reflect badly for MDP in the parliamentary election. Gasim’s Jumhooree Party could stand to gain from such a change of mind from the electorate.7. If president Nasheed ignores this as a minor hiccup without getting to the bottom of this, then a bigger fiasco could unfold in the future and it may be too late to see what roles Gasim, Faseeh and Riyaz would have played in this current problem. The time is now to get to the bottom of this conundrum.
Reethi Rah resort should be closed, they has violated human rights. Please tell tour operators and guests not to come to this resort. The human rights abuse must be investigated and those responsible must be brought to justice.
ReplyDeleteWell, halleluya! QASIM OUT!
ReplyDeleteNext throw out Sawad, Dr(s) Shaheed, Sissy Saeed & Jameel.
We just might have a good government after all.
Amen!
Throw out the forty or so percent who didn't vote anni so you will have a good government. Bushry, You are very silent on Shahidh's appointment as a State minister for Defence. Why? Answer is simple. Because you are his relative and you supported the november three coup. Before you write about veil on all school girls..hehe..this Bushry is just a joke. a bloke.
ReplyDeleteQasim resignes! what is the meaning of this? What would be Qasim's role now in the coaliation?

Mr. Anonymous, why should you attack the person himself rather than disproving the article? I jumped to a quick conclusion that you are incapable to challenge Mr. Bushry. After all who could disprove the truth?
I know credible people (who are also employees of Gasim) that he does show signs of hypocrisy.
By the way, there's nothing personal here. :)
wow!gasim isthiufaa dhinee dho!...how wonderful..
ReplyDelete:)
Gentlemen and ladies,..its not only reethi rah..all the foreign managed resorts violate human rights,,,labour rights,,
Mr. Gasim always struggle to respond to media. Watever the Q is he'd always talk about the constitution that he's so proud of. Its good that he resigned. Whenever a Q is raised he goes on beating around the bush. I hardly understand him. And another thing i have notced is that he cannot digest facts. He has no ethics, no attitudes to face the media. Even Mr. Jameel in a debate live on TVM before he resigned said the audience that they do not have the capability to listen. Mr. Gasim always reacts likewise to the media
ReplyDeletefor your infor: gasim and riyaz maybe doing all these for their profit but if ur in a sane mind you would not put cp faseeh in that mess, conspiracies are their with riyaz have all those so called intellence idiot's who were spying all political oponents, and you can see most of the police units are under that abdulla riayz ( wanna be commissioner of police) what a waste
ReplyDeleteHow do you like this Bushy?
ReplyDeleteJP & DRP joins, take a vote of no confidence of the Government
Qasim probably is the biggest loser in this country. Resigned from the cabinet of 2 presidents already. Keep it up man! Hehehehe!
ReplyDeleteBig mouth and no brains at all! Most probably 'cas the guy cannot take any criticism. What a retard!
Most likely he'll chk out of the coalition now and go his own way ... end of Anni's government as we know it. Why? Because there are even more retards in MDP ... people who have no vision or brains like the vagu kaleyge Mujuthaba (state minister of something) and that idiot at the prez. office whatshisname Baaree!!!
Maldivians are really screwed!!! Bring the Golhaabo back before all you idiots end up eating your own slippers.
Quite a "aneh dhivehiraajje!" this is turning out to be. Kekekeke!
a puppet blog of MDP,it started off with a lot of promises and hope, what a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteGasim is a looser if we see in political filed, he could not digest the criticism, he do not know in a democracy , there will be many watch dogs to see what’s going on and will criticize. How can Gasim become a president if he could not tolerate such simple case like Reethi Rai resort. He he ..aliiii
ReplyDeleteBushry why dont you write a piece Shahidh as state Minister and his involvement in Nov 3 terrorist attack.
ReplyDeleteWho would be posted as a Home Minister!!! Someone half asleep like all the parteys and criminals in the new government i guess. Jennifa LAtheef, Valezini???? Then only it wud be better and we'd see the real Aneh Dhivehi Rajje.
ReplyDeleteGuys can u suggest some names please.
There is someone called IC in MDP. I think he shud b given the post. wat do u guys think?
ReplyDeleteit seems to me that bushry has some personal rivelry against Faseeh. should he support any party? hell no man. he is not serving the president or any party. he is serving the people.he should be neutral.bushry u r a loser.
ReplyDeleteBig deal, now the resort 50 years extension should be canceled.
ReplyDeletePeople are not ready for this at the moment. With the implementation of corporate tax, anti trust laws, and an active Maldives Stock Exchange the Bill could be brought back to the Majlis.
Otherwise it will look like the businessmen are trying to ripoff the public.
why did DRP canceled their meeting scheduled for tonight? that announcement came half an hour after the announcement of gasim's resgination. hmmm. dont you guys smell something? watch out Anni. a scud is heading your way! aneh dhivehi raajje my foot. hehehe
ReplyDeleteSomebody told me that Dhiyaana, Sawad and Baree resigned. These kind of resignations are the norm Maldivian politics.
ReplyDeleteI suggest people can resign over disputes over policies, but that dosent mean we have to resign with grudges. Keep the party contacts, keep it friendly. Its not the end of the world.
Maumoon resign!!!!
ReplyDeletegolhaaboa faibaaaaaaaa

ReplyDeleteDRP or IDP or Social Liberal Party
ReplyDeleteThe biggest disadvantage for these parties is that THESE ARE NOT DEMOCRATIC PARTIES.
DRP is still carrying the old baggage's of Gayoom. Cant they get rid of this image by being a transparent and openly democratic Party.
Then only we will see a proper opposition.
I think Bushry should be the next Home Minister!

ReplyDeleteI dont mind Bushree as a Minister as long as he keeps his integrity.
ReplyDeletePut the public over everything else, not business, not party, not government expense account or money.
When the public need him to humble then should be able to humble himself down. Although i haven seen Bushry admitting himself to a mistake, thats important in politics, you should be able to step back and admit to your mistakes.
Both Fasy and Riyaz ar loyal Golhists. Riyazs wife is the daughter of Ambaree if im not wrong.
ReplyDeleteIts not wrong to have a opposing view over mainstream party politics.
ReplyDeleteExample: MDP is stressing for 50 year lease extension for resorts.
I oppose this. and I am a member of MDP. Reasons for opposing this is caz:
People are not ready for the following reasons.
1. Few publicly traded companies in the Tourism Industry. there should be more publicly trading Resort operating companies or force the existing Resort operating companies to sell something like 25% of the shares to public.
2.No Anti Trust law.
3.We havent even experienced the implementation of Coporate Tax.
4. The MRf 1.2 billion that MDP boast about in collecting, regarding the lease extension is merely a very tiny amount. If you do the math it comes to about 25 Larees per head per resort per month. Or just MRf22 per head per month. These are miserly figures that make no sense for a multimillion dollar industry. (figures based on 89 Resorts, 300K population, 15years Lease extension).
5. So with out the proper laws its actually a ripoff of public assets.
Worse of all the economy will plummet as these resort companies are ridden with debts and bank loans. They dont have that kind of money, so they are forced to borrow again from banks. Ultimately we will see a lot of locally operated resorts being sold to foreign companies.
ReplyDeleteThe Government is just trying to meet their recurrent expenses with selling future lease rentals (flat rentals with on increase for 15 years), just like what Gayoom did.
Also paying corporate tax is not a favor or a sacrifice the companies are making, its the norm in the developed world.
We need golhaaboa, he is better than anni. Dr.Hassan, Jameel, shaheed, dhiyana, majeed, sawad and latheef cant wait in Anni's cabinet for long time. Anni will make their life dificult and must resign. We knw Anni is a fake.

ReplyDeleteI just tested how much Bushry could get criticism. He blocked me from commenting immediately after i wrote a comment.
ReplyDeleteAnyone can come up with a conspiracy theory. Here is mine. Its more like the Reethi Rah staff strike is an MDP orchestrated fiasco since it happend in a resort of Thasneem's brother. Qasim got trapped. Wait and see. more resignations will follow. In the meantime why is Bushry so silent on the issue of Shahidh?
ReplyDeleteAny idea who attacked the young boy on the eve of the election day?
ReplyDeleteall wat we r seen n yet to see r pre-planned agendas of MDP. they wud exert pressure on all those who do not belong to MDP to resign. as far as i've seen anni is ok i think. about the picture o rather the image that anni has always bn talkin about in his campaign, i feel that its quite blur upto date. i cannot accept most of the members in the senior posts. i cannot see anything significant in these ppl. on wat ground is anni o filiwahid assigning members to senior posts. i think we need an answer for this. wat's is gogo latheef. wat's shahid. wat's mujthaba, etc. r they the educated ppl whom they have bn talkin throughout the campaign. don't we have any better ppl from specific fields.
ReplyDeleteBuruma gives zero tolerance to criticism. is it wat he showed us by resigning.
ReplyDeleteMost of the Maldivians cannot take criticism, thats y they fail.
How about all resort operators going on strike! How about all businessmen and shop owners, construction companies all go on strike.
ReplyDeleteLet us say the strike should end when and if the Employment Act is amended in a fair way for both Employers and Employees.
Now that the Home Minister's position is vacant, President Nasheed should appoint eith Sagaru Nasir or Luthfy (leader of the Nov 3rd coup attempt) to be the Home Minister.
ReplyDeleteThat will complete the circus...with Ameen Faisal and DB Shahid incharge of the Defence Ministry and Sagarey or Luthfy incharge of the Police.
Are we all asleep? Is this a nightmare? Or is this what we all voted for? Just because we voted for Nasheed doesnt mean we have to keep silent on all this.
Bushry!!! any suggestions abt who'd b our home minister.
ReplyDeleteSenior staff at Dhiraagu confirmed that Abdulla Riyaaz is still in touch with his former Boss Abdullah Riyaaz twice a day. I cannot comprehend what they have to talk on daily basis. Gasim's brother in law Abdullah Riyaaz is danger not only to President Nasheed and his government but also to others at Police force including Faseeh. The sooner he is gone the better Maldives we can build. He has been the center of all controversies and is active partner in Adam Zahir's businesses around Maldives. Abdullah Riyaaz is the richest man in Thaa Atoll now, not from Gasim's money but as many suspect part of the drug dealings conducted by his bosses Shukoor and Adam Zahir himself.
ReplyDeleteMany people will be surprised why Adam Zahir is using Abdullah Riyaaz's name when he calls to anyone. Some in the police forced has been told to refer him as "Abdulla Riyaaz". Even phone calls, emails, and post mails are dispatched under Abdullah Riyaaz's name. Are these guys gay???
ReplyDeleteBreaking news: Shaheen Hameed announced that he will run for DRP leadership. He is offering Rf.10 million to the party if he and his family is allowed to nominate the candidates for the upcoming election.

ReplyDeletewe are alomost Fxxxed up with this democracy /human rights and all this bull. we will never be able to get rid of this garbage ever again. that dictator has ruined the country for ever...
ReplyDeleteJust 22 days after the new government took office, Qasim resigned. This is the day the first cracks were seen in the MDP led government.
ReplyDeleteBasically, Anni and MDP did not enjoy majority support of the people. But the public supported the Alliance to topple the dictator. If Alliance members move out like this, MDP will not be able to govern this country for too long.
Anni should bring Qasim back into the government and sort out any problems if any.
Hey Gasim stay away form MDP Government. You are not welcome, we told you before the election, and now again we tell you after the election.
ReplyDeleteGet lost. But thanks for helping people. Just vanish, we dont need you to govern the country. you'll only ruin our economy
ok some of you guys doesn't believe that shahid is a terrorist ok with that we all know gayoom was a guy who use to kill the name of people he whom he dislikes in politics, like we saw very recently he made anni look like a terrorist for sitting in jumhooree maidhaan, when all free journalism is here, then think about the time of nasir where there was no free media and no system to govern.. he killed almost a thousand people from thinadhoo .. for expressing their thoughts and said it's bagaavaai.. but this reform minded guys label nasir as sumuvul ameeru kilege nishan gaazee my as.. but gayoom.. golhaboa (this is double standard i guess) and our reformed government doesn't think to even compensate thinadhoo people but rather give a dead man in the grave the so called izzai which in my logic is useless for the deadbody in evry religious point..
ReplyDeleteRegarding the decentralisation of government, one reader commented to a previous post: "I think decentralisation with a 3 tire system of local government would just result in wasteful, and costly bureaucracy...so i propose to dissolve the atoll divisions..."
ReplyDeleteI think this is a point worth consideration!
Luthfee deserves to bew the Home minister and Sagarey can be a state minister, Now ghaddar Shaid is also a state minister. appointing traitor shahid as state defence minister proves a point. Anni was part of Nove 3rd Coupe which killed maldivians. Anni is selfish and slef centred bastard. Resign Anni
ReplyDeleteTo the pea-brain who commented at 03:31
ReplyDeletePlease mind your language. You are referring to the President of this nation and your comment is against the Maldivian constitution in every way. Better be careful, cos as you know we can trace who you are quite easily. Please refrain from using obscence filth at our President. I don't give a damn about who he might be as long as he is within the limits designated to him by the constitution. This blog is read by a lot of youngsters even, so better watchout and hold yourself. Try and learn to express yourself better.
Well well, people suddenly seem very sensitive on how a President is addressed. Reading blogs over the last few years I thought this was not in our culture anymore. This at least is a good sign.
