For Gayyoom and Yamin and their family members, losing is not an option!

People! Wakeup! This isn't about Anni or MDP or Dr. Hassan. Our country is precariously tilting at the edge of an erupting volcano. We have two paths in front of us on 28th Oct. One is that the MDP-Coalition wins. Even then Gayyoom and Yamin may not accept defeat. They may use the police and the MNDF and their private militia and thugs to create havoc and push this country down the volcano. People could be slaughtered...killed...mutilated.

The second path is for Gayyoom to win. In such a scenario there is the possibility of the opposition taking to the streets in protest. Gayyoom and MNDF and police could brutally stop such an uprising. Even then there could be bloodshed. So we are all now experiencing the calm before the storm. Things aren't as rosy as it may appear. We are all victims trapped. For Gayyoom and Yamin and their family members, losing is not an option! THEY HAVE TOO MUCH TO LOSE. FOR THEM THIS IS A DO OR DIE SITUATION AND.....MAY ALLAH HELP US!

It is a fact that in politics, sometimes parties of different philosophies can come together to work for a common good. This does not mean that they are enemies. No one has a monopoly on the support of the Maldivians. Dr. Hassan has supporters just as Anni has supporters and Gasim has supporters. Dr. Hassan has a PhD and Anni has a Masters Degree. As far as public records are concerned neither of them have taken part in any corruption. So, no reformist who loves this nation should try to stir up hatred between Hassan and Anni and Gasim and the rest.

We should all be united behind these leaders to achieve our common goal. As Hassan himself said, it would serve no one's interest to let Gayyoom and Yamin win. If some of Hassan's supporters stir up hatred and cause disunity in the coalition, and because of that, if Gayyoom wins, imagine what will happen to all opposition leaders, including Dr. Hassan! Then the people of this country will be orphaned and we will lose all hope for at least another twenty years. So, people; please unite and work with focus. When we dislodge Gayyoom on 28th Oct, we could then decide the way forward.

As I said before, things aren't as rosy as it may appear. We are all victims trapped. For Gayyoom and Yamin and their family members, losing is not an option! THEY HAVE TOO MUCH TO LOSE. FOR THEM THIS IS A DO OR DIE SITUATION AND.....MAY ALLAH HELP US! Stop the hatred and stop the divisions. If we don’t help ourselves then we will have no one to blame but ourselves for the rest of our lives!!

  4. I guess people are frustrated and feeling helpless to see CHANGE slipping through their fingers because most us thought the country was ready for CHANGE.

However, Maumoon's tentacles run deep and he is very successfully using religion to bash MDP. What is frustrating is that Anni has so far failed to counter these allegations successfully. Failure to do so NOW will be fatal.

  5. i really thought hassan saeed was as bad as maumoon (well not as rotten as him )but i must say, i like his guts and decision to have formed a coalition with anni and the rest of the gang. i didnt vote for anni in the first round but this time my vote goes to him. anyone is better than maumoon, obviously. just can't imagine what his bully of a brother yamin and the crazy old sod are planning for us people. well, we the public have the power (especially on the 28th)if we are united as one against maumoon and his cronies but with our petty differences against anni, its only maumoon who's going to win. lets learn from the reformist we voted for. united we get to oust the president who lied and continues to lie but seperated maumoon wins...again.

  8. I fully expected an easy win for Maumoon in the first round. However this may be the real blessing for us. We now have the option for a government of unity with an excess of competent people to fill the posts. I can now more confidently vote for Anni in the second round.

  9. "No reformist who loves this nation should try to stir up hatred between Hassan and Anni and Gasim and the rest." Bushry

There is no better way you could stress the importance of uniting and voting out Gayoom. We all love our nation.

Bear what Bushry said in the above line the nay sayers.

  10. Respectfully disagreeing and objective critique does not amount to an incitement of hate and antagonism..if there is anything we need to learn from the Gayoom era is that we cannot blindly trust our affairs to our verin and hope they will act on our best interest; the best watchs dogs are those that patrol their own from within..........it is MDPs supporters who shiould be doing the job that independent observers from outside are doing by noting the many inconsistencies in policies and the many undemocratic elemnts within the leadership elite of the party...........a true patriot knows no bias.......let those who label such patriots as hate-mongers judge themselves

Which ever maybe the government of the day, there must always be think tanks and observer missions whose duty it is to guard the guardians of authority

Anni is on our radar, and we shall persevere in our criticism of his policies and that of his party. This does not necessarily amount to an opposition.

  11. to jpm,
you sound like a staunch munawwar supporter. thats okay. i also think anni has a lot to answer for with how he and his supporter within the MDP team treated munawwar. but now what we have is a matter of national emergency...it's between choosing maumoon's 30 long years of tyranny with anni. if anni, did what he did we can throw him out as a nation, but with maumoon it would be harder because he had been at if for a long time and his brother yamin will cut us up if we show any opposition. so forget your grievances against anni, and vote for what he stands for, rather than anni as a person.

  12. DO NOT TAKE LAW INTO YOUR HANDS. COURTS ARE THERE, INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL OF JUSTICE IS THERE. KILL ONE MAN, ITS AS IF U KILLED HUMANITY.

Your post today fills me with great FEAR. So I write! Because of what I fear I post this for you, giving my analysis. If it’s useful read-on. If u want to judge me before reading….. scroll down WITHOUT reading. Those who have the patience to read, let me know what u think. Please avoid violence. Killing one man is like killing the WHOLE WORLD.

Looks as if Anni & His recent added advisers have decided to go down the path of violence - This from what u write. From what you write, looks as if the opposition big wigs have lost their cool, YOU ARE PREPARING FOR VIOLENCE. That’s why this post of yours. Its obviously a must win for Gayoom, Its also a MUST WIN for Gasim , Hassan and Anni.

Gasim for obvious reasons. Such an oligarch as he obviously is; should have been a king-maker behind the scenes. His contribution to Maldives as a philanthropist in the mould of Soros would have been much greater than a minister. His performance as a Finance minister was just abysmal. His chances of being President is nil, because Maldives has changed. Maldives is obsessed with education, and to put it brutally Gasim hasn’t got what it takes. Running a country is different to running the corner shop. However he could not quench his thirst for power. So we are forced to talk. No disrespect to Gasim, is intended.

The doctor is young, bright, fresh, in my opinion, a bit hasty and slightly lacking in confidence. One interpretation, of the recent happenings is that he was not so sure of himself against the other young, bright, fresh and efficient ministers in the Govt. One of the stated reasons for his resignation was after all – the slow pace of reforms. Just a few months later we see a reasonably transparent general election . So obviously his stated reason for leaving Govt, was not the stated one – of delayed reforms. The possible reason was that in the Govt there were far too many young, bright, fresh and efficient guys. His chance of trying for the top job, in that crowd - he decided was none. At that stage, his chance of displacing Anni from MDP was also none. So the only cheap way open to him was to go it alone. He did and failed.

Anni. My sincere heart felt feelings are for the lad. He has suffered the most. He is definitely the hero of the hour. He is the latest of a long line of fighters for the fight to have a say in Government. The greatest mistake of the lad is that HE FORGOT THE ELECTORATE. The majority of the Maldivian electorate are Muslims. Its a minority who are Westernized, Beer toting, joint in hand and singing Ho-Sannah’s to Western Social Culture ( Don’t get me wrong! I don’t reject the west wholesale. The part that respects human rights, human dignity, the rule of law, the right to the sanctity of an invioble home – ALL THAT’S GUARANTEED BY THE KORAN AND HADIS – I accept.) . For whatever reason, best known to him, Anni catered to this minority electorate. He for some reason DID not choose to cater to the majority.

He forgot the majority. That’s why he fought on a DEMOCRATIC platform rather than a “ ISLAM PLATFORM”. Who joined him really were the westernized, lusting for western culture crowd and the dead-enders who felt aggrieved by MAG’s 30 year rule. These guys who at one time benefited from his rule, but who were no longer “in favor”; because of either their inefficiency or some other negative trait.

That’s why all the slogans of “Change”. The slogans stressing the 30 yrs rule. Anni wanted Maldivians to forget substance. He wanted to talk about emotions. Because his program catered to a West loving MINORITY. They knew that the ONLY chance was to play the emotional card. A huge number would have a lot against a 30 year rule – based on emotion. For all the alleged corruption ( alleged, because even Maumoon is presumed INNOCENT until he is PROVED GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.) Maldives is the first in South Asia – with respect to per capita income. – As reported in BBC and Al Jazeera. There is a lot to show in the fields of Education, Health, Housing, Island development. So the election had to be fought ON EMOTIONS - Change for Change sake.

Anni forgot that there was a silent majority in the Maldives. Relatively older, but a very down to earth Maldivian WHO GENUINELY LOVED HIS RELIGION. This lot were CONSERVATIVE and old school Maldivians who you might call “ Bodu Tharutheeb” religionists who believed this was the closest interpretation of the holy Quran and the Hadith. Because Anni, he forgot this majority until it was far too late, he lost the first round by such a massive margin.

So to salvage the situation, he thought he had to join Gasim and Adhalath party. MISTAKE!!!!!!! Both had been rejected by the majority of Maldivians. If Anni kept his cool, and struck to his principles, it would have been politically better. Now, a lot of hard-core MDP-ists would question his choice of what I call neo- Talibanists. Many see them as such, with their ugly unkept scraggy beards, ugly dirty looking attire, and trousers cut 1 foot above their ankles. To make it worst the whole of Maldives saw the body language of the Anni – Gasim handshake. Anni, gave up his independence to decision making to neo Thalibanists and Gassim, for what? Gassim IS MAG mould. He is more MAG than MAG himself. If the Maldivians vote with their brains instead of their hearts, ANNI is in deep trouble.

Anni forgets that all Maldivians are watching. After 30 long years of what I call relatively benign “No party” authoritarian rule, the Government delivered on the reforms laid down in the President’s road-map to reforms. By this, one action MAG has demonstrated that he is an efficient, extremely intelligent, brilliant VETERAN, who is sharp enough to listen to the advice of his young, efficient, modern era, high-risk taking ministers ( Against whom the doctor decided he could not compete and win).

Its NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!!!! The winning formula for Anni would have been quite simply to cater to the majority – On a platform of Islam, instead of Democracy.

To fight for Equality because Allah says in the Koran that all have been created Equal. To fight for THE RULE OF LAW, because the Koran and Hadis makes it clear that the ruler and ruled are answerable to the law. To decide by CONSULTATION, because we have the example of the Prophet – Pboh doing this. And the Prophet – Pboh interpreted the holy Koran for humanity. TO SAY WITHOUT AMBIGUITY WE MALDIVIANS WOULD DECIDE OUR AFFAIRS ACCORDING TO THE KORAN AND HADIS. Because we say – La ilaha illalahu, Muhammadan Rasoolullahi. – Because WE HAVE SUBMITTED 100% TO ALLAH – in short we are MUSLIMS. The whole of Maldives would have been behind you. 90% would vote for u Oh ANNI.

Now, Anni it seems you are contemplating going down the road of violence. Don’t contemplate it. The texts are clear on this. Killing one man is like killing the whole of humaity. Maldivian lives ARE IN YOUR HANDS. We all have seen, Yes! The International Community sees that MAG did not use the police and army to avoid reforms. Because of his 30 years experience, his wisdom, his bravery he has implemented these reforms.

If you do loose, if u feel u were wronged, contest the results, GO TO THE COURTS. There in USA! You have a wonderful example to follow – Al Gore, had a lot of reasons to contest the election results. Just AS THE KORAN AND HADIS WOULD HAVE ADVICED, Al Gore went to the courts. GO TO OUR COURTS, IF YOU HAVE TO….GO TO THE INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL. DO NOT GO ONTO THE STREETS.

Going onto the streets will leave the GOVT. NO OPTION BUT to restore LAW and ORDER, any way it can. Have confidence in YOURSELF. There is a TOMORROW. If u loose, start again, catering to the majority. If you cater to the majority, YOU WILL WIN.

If U WIN. ALHAMDULILLAHI. RULE MALDIVES, BY THE KORAN AND HADIS. Announce NOW that YOU WOULD., and FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL, TO DO SO – THE WHOLE OF MALDIVES WILL BACK YOU. Insha Allah Brother Anni, YOU WILL INSHA ALLAH WIN. U don’t need Gasim, Adhalath, or the doctor. U NEED THE MAJORITY OF THE DOWN TO EARTH MUSLIM MALDIVIANS. THEY WONT REJECT THE KORAN, AND HADIS.

There is much in the West that’s according to the Koran and Hadis. Accept them. There is much against the Koran and Hadis. REJECT THEM.

DO NOT PREPARE TO SHED MALDIVIAN BLOOD. IF U HAVE A PROBLEM, GO TO THE COURTS. Anni, Tomorrow is in your hands. With Bismi, take it. Dont try and work to change the majority. Rather work for the majority.

  13. To anonymous 16 October, 2008 03:03: how on earth you can prove the majority of Maldives do 5 times prayer, don't fornicate, don't rape, don't abuse kids (even parents abuse their own kids), don't use drugs, don't drink alcohol, don't steal, don't kill people, don't eat in daytime of Ramadan ..?????? You name any sin you can think of and you will find it in here. Do a research and you'll be amazed to know the majority. There is no help a court can do as long as justice cannot be delivered and that is what history is proving.

These traditions are proved from authentic ahadhiths in Sahih-ul-Bukhari.
Also you have said that "WE HAVE SUBMITTED 100% TO ALLAH – in short we are MUSLIMS" so how can you mock other muslims as well as the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ??

  20. Guys we should get more votes for MDP Alliance from Resort employees who voted for Gayoom. Specially the old timers the vote for Gayoom. Convince them why not to vote for Gayoom.

We must aim our campaign to the Army and police forces and their families, we must get their votes so that we could win the election.

Also the Alliance Campaign should aim at Atoll councils and Island Council to get their support. Caz these are the people who campaign for Gayomm and involved in the vote buying activities. Educate them and tell the why not to vote for Gayoom. Tell them not to sell their childrens future so that Gayoom can live a corrupt and lavish at the expense of us/the state.

People pls campaign and talk to friends/distant relatives/family members and neighbors so that we get every vote and beat the dictator.

    Everyone Pleases pass the message.

Thank you, for pointing this out. I appologise unreservedly IF ANY Muslim’s feelings was heart by my post. I wanted my post to be taken LITERALLY. If the hat fits, fit it on – type of invitation.

My intention was not to Mock. The beards that I reffered to were ugly unkept scraggy beards, ugly dirty looking attire, and trousers cut 1 foot above the ankles.

I have indeed taken 3 hours to go over very carefully the hadis and koranic verses available on the topic. I have not been able to locate any verse or hadis ordering Muslims to keep UGLY, UNKEPT, SCRAGGY beards.

Neither have I found any verse or Hadis ordering Muslims to wear ugly, dirty attire; Nor have I found any Hadis asking Muslims to wear trousers cut 1 foot above the ankles. If u have pls enlighten me… jassilme@yahoo.co.uk

  22. What sort of politics is this? The Maldivian Public votes Maumoon – 40+ %, Anni – 25+%. Doc – 16%. On the strength of this comes the second round – Maumoon Vs Anni.

Now latest we hear is…….. ANNI agrees to call an election mid term. He is SO SURE HE CANT WIN, ON HIS OWN, he has to bow down to DOC. No Strength to say NO.

Observe the stupidity. The EXPENCES of another General Election, when its not needed.

Apparently this is to avoid coming, in between the people and the person whom the people wants as president. HE FORGETS DOC IS FAR BELOW HIM.

He is so confidant that all Docs supporters wont vote for him, he is admitting he CANNOT WIN. What is the message he sends out? That he is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.

This is unbelievable. Just 5 words - Lame-Duck - President- To- BE

  25. The Hand Symbol Used by Gayoom in his campaign logo.

This symbol is called "The Hand of Fatima" that many Muslims in Middle East carry as a sign of faith is a superstitious throwback to paganism and has nothing to do with religion, according to Islamic scholars.

The Fatima amulet is called a Khamsa in Algeria, from the Arabic word for five, and is seen as protection against the "evil eye." The amulet consists of five spread fingers, often with an eye on the back of the hand.

Scholars say the hand design turns up on prehistoric archaeology sites and was probably associated originally with protective virtues.

The evil or wandering eye is recognized by Islam. Prophet Mohammed spoke of it, but he told his disciples to recite verses from the Koran to avert it, and never recommended carrying the Khamsa, It is a distant souvenir of paganism like talismans and other cabalistic symbols.
Scholors affirm that “The Hand of Fathima” is about peoples "fetishes" believed to convey magic qualities correspond to pagan and anti-Islamic beliefs. They said the Hand of Fatima, medals containing verses from the Koran and even illuminated paintings from the Koran that some Muslims hang on the wall should all be banned.

  27. The more one thinks about it, the more one is convinced that these elections IS NOT ABOUT CHANGE. We ALREADY have a new constitution that guarantees an independent legislature, independent judiciary from the executive. We also have a free press, an independent civil services commission and a human rights commission.

So whats the buzz? Why this clamour for change, when we already have the changes, we want? WHO IS BEHIND THIS MANIPULATION OF A NATION’S WHOLE POPULACE?

Anyone can see this is not a spontaneous outburst of feeling. The cry for change suddenly is so great, and emotionally charged that citizens are no longer thinking and unwilling to consciously think with their minds.

Its so stage managed that inexorably we are being pushed to vote with our hearts and not our brains. The population is suddenly mesmerized. WHO IS THE PIED PIPER?

Lets remember how Kamal Attaturk of Turkey and Bourgiba in Tunisia high jacked their respected Muslim electorates. How did the American University in Beirut, undermine the sources of ISLAMIC LAW. RESERCH IT.

In these countries the Reformists in the space of a generation banished Islam from its political life, and gendered a Muslim Generation who questioned the timelessness of the Koran, and denied the whole Hadis works. Learn about KAMAL ATATURK and BOURGIBA..

You my friends, have the credentials to research for yourself the damage done to Islam in Turkey and Tunisia. Then in Lebanon, Algeria. PLEASE DO A GOOGLE SEARCH. Please Research it, and try to draw your conclusions, before its too late.
