Discos Forbidden in Islam says Maldives Islamic Ministry

Minivan News reports that the ministry of Islamic affairs appealed to the Maldives Police Service on Wednesday to end to all the discos organised for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Police sergeant Ahmed Shiyam confirmed Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari, the minister of Islamic affairs, had made an official request to the police commissioner, Ahmed Faseeh, for police to take action regarding this matter.
“We will be taking steps in accordance to the ministry’s request,” said Shiyam, but he did not comment on what action the police would take.
Dr Bari refused to comment on the issue on Wednesday.
Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the state minister of Islamic affairs, said the ministry had formally requested the police stop the discos from taking place because they were contrary to Islam. He added the ministry had received complaints from the public.
“We have received hundreds of complaints asking for a ban on the DJs,” he said. “So, the number of people who are against having DJs is greater that the number who wants them.
“Even a police official has informed us that they have also been receiving complaints.”
According to Shameem, it is haram or forbidden in Islam for both sexes to dance together.
Article 10 of the Constitution states the religion of the Maldives is Islam and Islam shall be the basis for all laws in the land.
Although Article 27 stipulates everyone has the right to freedom of expression, the right only exists as long as it is “not contrary to any tenet of Islam”.
Shameem said the ministry had met with and advised some of the people organising the events.
“They said a lot of money had been invested to organise the events and it would be a great financial loss if the discos were cancelled,” he said. “They added they would not organise more discos in the future.”
Hussain Ibrahim, a prominent lawyer, agreed there was no law which permitted discos.
Ibrahim, also a former constitutional assembly member, said discos were forbidden in Islam and as such would be contrary to the Constitution.
“I can’t believe it,” said 25-year-old Ali Hussain after hearing the ministry’s decision. “It’s a big surprise. I’ve been celebrating New Year’s Eve for the past five years by going to discos. Boys and girls want to dance to music on this night.”
Hussain added if discos are banned, circumcision parties should also be forbidden.
“In circumcision parties, men and women dance very closely, so the ministry’s decision is unfair.” (Minivan News)

this state can be rich and modern although if we do not have such immoral acts. take Dubai as an example. They have world class hotels and is rich with there oils, still this type of immoral activities are not allowed in that country.
And its better for Ministry of Islamic Affairs not to force them to stop such kind of activities. They can better advice and preach Islam religion to the youth and the whole country. If people really know then they will at least try to refrain from such anti-Islamic activities!

  4. Haha. And Have you been to Dubai? You can have your drink and call the right hooker for your budget right there.

They have reasonably liberal population that doesn't chase out all non muslims with propaganda and welcome investment.

And THAT"S why they're developing. You might want to compare that with their medieval neighbours with billions of dollars but still stuck in the 7th century.

  6. I advice police not use force to stop the discos, such things will not stop by overnight. Those discos have been practising in Maldives few years back. What we have to do is to revise our educational currculum and teach islamic values and build eemaan in the studends heart and mind from their very tender age.Give councilling to the youth ,thats not the way we to enjoy, real happiness will get only living according the Quran and Sunnah.Having music with drinks and girl will not get satisfaction, calmness and happiness.your lord knows whats best for you.

  10. President Nasheed should not have establsihed a Ministry for Islamic Affairs. The interpretation will now be that the order has come from the President himself and he has to take the responsibility for any consequences. I call upon President Nasheed to dismiss his Minister for islamic affairs NOW and abolish the ministry. Im OK with him establishing a religious counsil, they can bring out fatwas, but then the police will have no right to stop people from defying the fatwa. Now, police will have to act as the order has come from a Minister appointed by the President

    "We being Muslims"
    Whose "we"?

Where human beings are concerned there can never be uniformity. Just accept the facts; it's your wishful thinking that Maldives is a 100 percent Islamic country. It never was and will never be (though the earlier Sultans tried to make Maldives 100 percent Islamic by murdering the Maldivian Buddhist monks who refused to convert to Islam [after Abdul Barakath Barbary managed to blackmail the King in converting everyone to Islam] and burying them in mass graves under various mounds we now call "historic places" in Maldives. Ask the National Council on Linguistic and Historical Research).

Being 100 percent in uniformity with one ideology goes against the very nature of logic itself you morons.

  25. DID I COUNT THE CHICKEN BEFORE THEY HATCHED? Below is what I wrote, now looks as if we have a fight on our hands. Almost prevoyant ....

    HAPPY NEW YEAR
Our President Nasheed has given us a really fine boost and we can expect things to happen this NEW YEAR. I already smell the freshness of freedom in the air, in Male that was not there before. Freedom, Liberalism and success beckon us, and its up to us to grab the opportunity, fast.

The Young, Educated and Progressive youth of this country did the impossible. We decapitated "the regime of 30 years". We now have to deal with another more formidable foe – the bearded Talibs and the Ninja’s. Once we pack them off to the Saudi dessert WE CAN AND WOULD BE TRULY FREE.

These poor dogmatic innocents that frequent the blog "Maldivians For Islam" like the likes of Yasmine, Thakuru, Yusuf, and all those cut and paste artists are in delusion. There is nobody in Maldives who is interested in their brand of crap anymore. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND WE WANT OUR SPACE. NOW!!!!!!!!!

We ALL want a decent standard of living, not as a handout but as our due for work well done. The Government has to provide the means of achieving these goals by investing in education, training, career counseling, investing in health, transport, enhancing fishing, exploring modern agriculture, leisure, creating the atmosphere for attracting foreign investment and of course boosting productivity.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so opportunities for just chilling out in a disco, night club, casino or just eat out without fear of some idiots blowing your head Off should fast become a reality in our paradise islands. We have worked hard for our democracy so now individual freedoms without any hindrance must follow.

Individual freedoms means the FREEDOM TO CHOOSE - What we eat, what we drink, what we do, when we do, what we say, when we say, what we worship, how we worship. Its obvious that the only limit being transgressing into someone else’s space.

To Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom! That’s the toast for this promising NEW YEAR’S DAY.

  27. What’s REAL NEWS to me is to learn that there were many Maldivians who complained to both the Ministry and the police regarding these Disco’s and their plans for a New Years night bash. In this instance looks like the Minister had no choice but to act. Are we seeing the start of Maldivians beginning to make a stand on matters concerning Islam?

Its irrelevant what people in Dubai or Saudi do. What’s important is what the Koran and Hadis teach us to do. Some comments calling for reminding Maldivians about Allah and their duty towards Allah are in my opinion excellent advice. The fact is that with Knowledge of Allah, comes love, and the desire to please Allah.

I see a string of very negative comments. I understand their problem. They simply haven’t taken time to learn about themselves. If and when they learn about themselves they would realize that they are the recipients of a great deal of love. Too much, too complex for me to put in black and white. If it were not so, he/she would realize that he/she would simply not exist. To understand what THAT means, one has to KNOW ONESELF.

Allah is closer to you than your neck veins; we learn from the Koran. Allah loves you tens of times more than a mother loves you; we learn from the Hadis. How then can you reject Allah? A question worth considering before you count your chicks.

Wow, i welcome all those who know so much better about Dubai back there again. If you can't afford to come, please search internet and you will find 2 recent cases that british couples being sentenced to jail for having sex in a public area (on a beach at 2am which is practically not very public). one of these couple were on their honeymoon. they still got the 6 month jail sentence and smashes on their buttock. This mean they are moderate, enjoy the rich life in dubai but they respect Islam at its highest level (regardless ppl can hide in their coreners and drink or have a hooker. So better you guys do the same as if you think dubai is your role model country. Hide and have you disco in you corner and get drunk and have whoever you got on your hand to have sex (next day morning you could realise that with drunken mind you might had sex with your mum or sister). But who cares you guys still enjoyed as it is obvious that non of you really cares about the rules of islam which could guide you to avoid wrong doings.
i am pleased to be living in uk and feels totally opposite. God bless our country.

This post by anonymous – 01:52 is representive of what many secularists and the so called freethinkers fling at Muslims. I have taken time to answer them from my point of view. It’s my effort to Get close to my CREATOR. These are my thoughts and if I make a mistake below, please do correct me. May Allah guide us! Ameen.

If you find this not to your taste, scroll down and block me out…. :-)

Anonymous 01:52 You said …… “You and your religion. Me and my faiths and principles that i adhere to. get it..”

Yes I get it. Its amusing because I got things very clear quite some time ago when I read the Surat Al Kafiroon – THE DISBELIEVERS. Let me share the beautiful verses of surat 109 in translation.

    109.001 - 006
Say : O ye that reject Faith!
I worship not that which ye worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
To you be your Way, and to me mine.

You also said…. “ so get a life and don't try to force your so called Islam or wat ever to other pp l”

I really think it might do you a bit of good to learn just a bit about islam before being judgemental as you are prone to do. If you do, it will help you to avoid looking stupid. For your edification, may I am post the following Koranic verses? Read and think and see for yourself what Allah revealed 1500 + years ago. It looks to me as if it's tailor made verses for you. I mean that its very relevant in relation to the way you think, and what you perceive to be Islam.

    2:256
There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way. Whoever therefore rejects the forces of evil and believes in God, he has taken hold of a support most unfailing, which shall never give way, for God is All Hearing and Knowing.

    16:82
But if they turn away from you, (O Prophet remember that) your only duty is a clear delivery of the Message (entrusted to you).

    6:107
Yet if God had so willed, they would not have ascribed Divinity to aught besides him; hence, We have not made you their keeper, nor are you (of your own choice) a guardian over them.

    21:107 to 109
(O Prophet?) 'We have not sent you except to be a mercy to all mankind:" Declare, "Verily, what is revealed to me is this, your God is the only One God, so is it not up to you to bow down to Him?' But if they turn away then say, "I have delivered the Truth in a manner clear to one and all, and I know not whether the promised hour (of Judgment) is near or far."

Finally from what the prophet – pbuh taught us.

"Beware on the Day of Judgement; I shall myself be complainant against him who wrongs a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state or lays on him a responsibility greater than he can bear or deprives him of anything that belongs to him." (Al-Mawardi)

I guess the matter is quite clear. If you live in a country in which (survey or no survey) until very recently it was universally accepted by the islands inhabitants that they were all Muslims, then you should expect that the islands constitution would have clauses to protect Islam AS IT IS.

In this scenario anyone has among many options the 4 options listed below to lead his or her life…

(1). To live AS a Muslim – in public and private.
    (2) To live AS a Muslim in public and live as he/she pleases in private.
(3). To live as he pleases without undermining the faith and morals of other Muslim citizens.
(4). To live as he pleases knowingly or unknowingly undermining the faith and morals of other Muslims.

In my view, (4) is the option that WOULD INVITE intervention by the authorities to prevent you from corrupting peoples Muslim faith and promoting loose morals amongst Muslims. Maybe if I put it in another way it might be more acceptable to you? So if you wish “When in Rome, live as the ROMANS DO”.

Finally you wrote… .. “i don't see any relevance between wat religion you follow and the actions of yours as this just is a Massive LIE”…

----- That’s your opinion. I invite you to the blog “ Maldivians For Islam”, to see a divergent view to yours. There why “what you do” is so relevant to you is discussed in detail. There we concluded that WHAT WAY OF LIFE YOU FOLLOW AND WHAT ACTIONS AND HOW YOU DO THOSE ACTIONS ARE REALLY VERY IMPORTANT”. Maybe you could visit and read and give your opinion too.

May Allah Bless us all. May Allah Guide us to Him and may Allah increase in our hearts love for Allah and His prophet… Ameen.

    Peace!

Islam Is the only way, for Maldivians. We will not tolerate any other religion.
BUT If Adhaalath party or Some other Mullah believes that ISLAM is the way “he” believe it or was taught to him, then woe to him and the Adhaalathu party.
ISLAM is in Quran and it was brought to us by Muhammed (PBUH), and today we have only QURAN to refer as Islam, coz all the shit head Mullahs have messed up with the teachings of our rasool so much that it can be interpreted as desired by the Mullahs. (just look at the "hadees" by Jasmin in this column).
So don’t ruin our Nation by introducing Wahaabizm and the like to us. Just go back to Pakistan or Afgastan to ruin your teacher sheiks and Mullahs.
IF Disco is not forbidden in ISLAM, then our constitution allows it.
Look at the damage Adhaalath and the Mullahs are doing to our sons and daughters. They just ban it saying it will open doors for the Haraam.
MORONS, by doing so you are opening door for our citizens to be KAAFIRS.
May Allah guide us to the blessed path, May Allah bless our people. May Allah forgive me if I am wrong.

Freedom of religion improves morality in a society, as paradoxical as this may seem. On the surface, USA looks like the most evil morally, but dig deeper into Al Mamlaka Al Arbiyya Al SAuddiya and the other religious societies (vatican, Taliban) and you will see these places are evil as all hell, much worse than America. There are many reasons for this. First, when religion does not depend on state for funding and is not controlled by the state, the religious are free to act as a check and balance against governmenmt corruption without fear of compromise. Also, because the religious have to work harder to win ppl over through inspiration rather than through intimidation, moral standards are elevated. To get power, even if its power to do good, you have to do evil to get power. Politicians often think that the few lies and crooked deals will be worth all the good they'll do once in power, but if a religious does it and religious are role models, it givves a bad example of the end justifies the means, ppl don't strive to be moral.

I fully and totally support Anon 2:29 above me. very true!

Many asked, why i call my self muslim and why i vote for muslim. Balaga i don't have to call my self, but is automatically labeled ennu. I did not study abt religions and chose ONE. It was apprently wat my forefathers followed and i HAVE to follow it. There is no buts, not questions! this is the problem with you ppl. now again don't quote from Kuran.
As i mentioned earlier, next election, we will only vote for whoever contends to give us freedom from all this religious crap. I hope its in near future that our mindset changes and accept the fact that NO nation can be 100% same faith.. Its very clear on how many Political parties we have. less than 300000 ppl and how many registered political parties we have. Different political view. So how do you expect to have same view on religion?

I quite agree with you, with a clarification. :-) All religions – WHAT WE UNDERSTAND IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY - are a big fat lie. Islam is not a religion in the traditional way. IT’S A “DEEN” – A COMPLETE WAY OF LIFE. The difference between a religion and a DEEN is huge. Maybe it would serve you well if you just stopped to assimilate what you read - To give yourself a chance. Just sisterly advice. :-)

Since you asked… I quote the Koran, because I believe it’s the word of Allah revealed to the prophet Muhammad –Pbuh; for mankind to lead their lives according to it. If you ask me why I believe so? thats another dialogue! for another time. In the meantime, I quite agree with you that with your present mindset there cannot be any further discussion. So I just note as revealed in the Surat quoted earlier, to you your religion, to me mine. Forgive me! :-)

    Peace!

It's funny when this haabee's say to others "go else where to practice your freedom". Maldives was not a Muslim country (before they were forced into it), maybe some people now wanna still believe it's 100% Muslim country. My friends it is not. It's just a matter of time, before again other religions will be openly practiced as it was before. No one can do anything abt this. Like it or not! Enjoy!

    no discos.
As for the so called mullas concerns I advice them

Disco's can't be acceptable in this nation, i agree, besides president Nasheed selection for islamic ministry is the finest of the citizens he can contract, DR. MAJEED AND SHAHEEM. Nevertheless , “ we have to have patience if we want to get back our future generation to live islam.it has taken 30 years to get to this stage.”
( meaning: last 10 years of Gayoom's rule have left so many young children deprived of their youth. forced to live in pigeon holes with barely two meals a day.they were forced to engaged in sex. forced drugs on them. they grew up with no FAITH.) This one is a excellent remark to Islamic ministry to consider. Thus where will we initiate?
FISRT WE ought to establish ISLAM at this juncture, AND fact that the whole universe is full of evidence indicating that there is Allah (God) and that He is the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists.
FOR ISLAMIC MINISTRY, there are much better things to oblige police to bring to an end. The KILLINGS AND GANGS IN MALE. Gang violence is a big issue,

Even in a declared war, certain rules must be followed, so please bring and end to this sadism and let nation breathe a living ( attn: president nasheed, Islamic ministry, commissioner of police, MNDF chief of staff, prosecutor general )

the more you begin to investigate, what we think we understand, where we came from, what we think we are doing?, the more you begin to see we are being lied to. We have been lied to by every institution that makes you think for one minute that the religious institution is the only one thats not being touched. The religious institutions in this world are at the bottom of the dirt.

The religious institutions in this world are put there by the same people who gave you your government, your corrupt education, who set up the international banking cartels, because our masters don't give a damn about you and your family. All they care about is what they have always cared about and thats controlling the whole damn world.

We have been misled away from the true and divine presence in the universe that man have called GOD. I don't know what god is, but i know what he is not. And unless and until you are prepared to look at the whole truth, wherever it may go or whoever it may lead to, if you want to look the other-way or if you want to play favorites that somewhere along the line you are going to find out that you are messing with the divine justice.

The more you educate your self, the more you understand where things come from, the more obvious things become and you begin to see lies everywhere. You have to know the truth and seek the truth and the truth will set you free.

they must find it difficult..... those who have taken authority as the truth, Rather than truth as the authority.
    -G. Massey, Egyptologist-

I got to tell you the truth. When it come to bullshit... Big time manjaleoague bullshit, you have to stand in aw! of the all time champion of false promises and exaggerations that claim RELIGION.

Think about it! Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man! living in the sky who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of the ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things in the list he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anger which will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever till the end of time. but he LOVES you. kekekekek He loves you! he loves you and he needs MONEY!
He always needs money. He is all powerful, all perfect, all knowing and all wise but somehow just can't handle money. Religion takes in BILLIONS of Dollars, they pay no taxes and they always need a little more.

NOw you talk about a good bullshit story, Holly Shit

  70. Hello Bushry,

Do you think it's worth time to engage in religious debates? I removed my earlier comment by myself. The reason? I don't now find it worth my time to argue with people who won't accept sense. This is particularly true as far as religious debates are concerned.

Don't you think that you and I have better things to do than take part in debates that will go nowhere. Perhaps, what people like Arabiguitar and Ingireysithofi (visit their blogs) are really trying to do is knock some sense into the "swing" crowd; people who haven't made up their mind yet or people who are in doubt and would like the truth. For surely I don't think religious debates can have any fruitful impact whatsoever on either Islamic or Christian or Jewish (or any other religion for that matter) fundamentalists and extremists because they would have already made up their minds about their choice of beliefs, views and opinions -- mostly on the fundamentalist and extremist side I would say.

Not to boast about myself, but let me say that sometimes I am really surprised at myself because when I was a teenager I used to be a Haabee (a fundamentalist) but later on realised certain truths and found the courage to leave extremism and start walking on a more moderate path. I find quite encouraged by present Maldivian youth generation because I believe they are courageous, too. Some guys have left Wahhabism while some girls have taken off the veil which they wore in the first place due to family and social pressure. I have always believed that if somebody wants to be Haabee or somebody wants to wear the buruga, it should be by his or her own choice, not to submit to any outside pressure from the government, family or social authority.

LIVE AND LET LIVE. When can we start doing that as one nation, one people but with different ideas, opinions and beliefs?

Dear Brothers (like Bushree) and Sisters (including Jasmin)
    i have some news!
I spend last night in a resort, where management has arranged newyear celebrations for the staff.
i was thinking since it was a resort, it would be booz, girls ( who don't give a damn abt religion) and boys dancing on the disco floor. BUT as the party progressed, to my surprise there came a group of girls (ALL wearing buruga) with colorful dress and started their apparent arranged dancing events. I enquired abt this with the Human resources then and there. Because i read above article from Minivan, bushree clubescape and eveywhere and all the comments about Dr Mullar bannign Male' discos and how muslims are not suppose to dance or enjoy SO I just could not believe my eyes.

The HR guy told me that this is a professional dance group from Olhuvelifushi (LH.atoll) who are paid to perform. MOst of the staff are from Lhaviyani atoll and i think they have recommended this. There was a group leader, a girl (with buruga as well) and a man as well.

i was really surprized on how these ppl faith work and wat they wear contradicts their actions. NOw i thot it would just be some Bandiyaa or dhadi jehun only. but oh my god, believe me after a while, DJ started playing house music and they were so tuned they got on the floor for the DJ music and habeeys with the guys (resort staffs ) and the group manager (guy)... i can hear guys calling, wooo shake that booty woho! and the girls would!!! i mean i was by then exhausted with surprize!

Always staff parties are arranged without booz and very few foreign satffs would come, but to the few came and to their much amuzement they saw buruga wearing Maldivian chicks stripting infront a crowd and they were like.. "but no alcohol because Maldivians are 100% sunni Muslims".. Holy shit!!! hehe i could not stop laughing! i mean this is the bitter truth. I will be posting a video on youtube this afternoon and will give you guys the link...

Now im not saying that them Maldivian girls dacing and guys enjoying it was wrong. BUT wearing buruga and no alcolhol party, dancing and shaking booty was utterly wrong.

Im also not saying these ppl faith is same as some more intelligent commentators like Jasmin, but just wanted to share my amuzement i quite enjoyed last night. Enjoyed not in the sense by watching them dance unlike the rest of the guys in the resort who pray 5 times. But i was enjoying my observations and having fun to know how some see things for real and rest of the ppls perspective on their faith and religion is really bullshit..

wat is the difference or methodology used...how does such activities become haram? are they haram at the whim of dr majeed?

rather than controlin other ppl's lives and thier decision, beliefs and morality dr majeed should look into his own life and see if he is truly following Islam..

Dr Majeed has no right, in this world and in the hereafter to control what other ppl do or dont do..we each have freedom of thought and are ultimately responsible for our own actions..

Wonder what "Dr" Abdul Majeed Abdul Bakari will say to this:

As he's hell bent on destroying discos and banning internet websites .... well, let's see.
    --------------------
To all ye true "believers" of Islam and "protectors of the Islamic faith" in the Maldives:

I challenge ALL you morons, dimwits & retards to explain to me how you all reap the fruits from an industry that is built upon the selling of alcohol in this country. EVERYONE, and I mean everyone in this country seem to agree there is nothing wrong with this.

We all KNOW this but now my turn for Quran & other preaching:

"They ask you (O Muhammad ) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allâh makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought." - Al-Baqarah 2:219

On Buying & Selling "Allah's Messenger(sallallahu alaiyhi wasallam)cursed ten people in connection with wine: the wine-presser, the one who has it pressed, the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who benefits from the price paid for it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought." - Narrated Anas ibn Malik(r.a.)

On Medicinal use - "Wa'il said: Tariq ibn Suwayd or Suwayd ibn Tariq asked the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wasallam) about wine, but he forbade it. He again asked him, but he forbade him. He said to him: Prophet of Allah, it is a medicine. The Prophet said: No it is a disease." - Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar(r.a.)

Enough already? I can go on!

Now tell me, how do you fuckwits talk about the veil, banning discos and God knows what else and preach good Islam when this is ALLOWED & FOLLOWED by every "good" Muslim in this country.

Answer me this and then go on with your other ramblings. Otherwise shut the F UP!!!

Let everyone else live their own lives.

PS: oh, btw, the allowance for the use of Alcohol is also authorized on a piece of official document signed by Muslim government officials with the Bismi on top. Hypocrites!!!

    ps:
(someone tol me that the bismi has been removed now - like that makes a different kekeke)

Islam, Christianity, Hindhu, Buddism, along with all the fiestic believe systems is the fraud of the age. It serve to detach the species from the natural world and likewise each other. It supports blind submission to authority. It reduces human responsibility to the effect that GOD controls everything and intern awful crimes can be justified in the name of divine pursuit,,,, and most importantly it empowers those who know the truth, that use the myth to manipulate and control societies.

The religious myth is the most powerful device ever created and serves as a psychological soil upon which other myths can flourish.

A myth is an idea that while widely believed is false. In a deeper sense, in the religious sense a myth serves as orienting and mobilizing story for a people. The focus is not on the stories relation to reality but on its function. A story can not function unless it is believed to be true in the community or the nation. It is not a matter of debate. If some ppl have the bad taste to raise the question of the truth of the sacred story, the keepers of the faith do not enter in to a debate with them. They ignore them or denounce them as blasphemer.
