The national anthem of our country fails to inspire the new generation of Maldivian. I feel that even the anthem “Wathan Edhey Gothah” compiled by our first president (Mohamed Amin) is also a better tune and a better anthem than our national anthem. Perhaps this wouldn’t be a very popular idea, but I feel that we need to think and debate whether we could change our national anthem.
wathan edhey gotha is postive, active and calls for change,
ReplyDeletecurrent qaumee salan is very passive and like saying be quite and stay put.
Wathan edhey gotha is not good, is passive, talks about death and dying as a martyr and its slow like a song we sing over some ones death over a funeral.
ReplyDeleteThe national anthem should positive energy to the masses, it should be cheerful and merry, it should be motivational, national pride, it should be youthful.
'watan edhey gothah' is a pliagarisation of an old hindhi song.

ReplyDeleteGood point i think the Flag should be changed... specially the color pattern.
ReplyDeleteAnd no need of the crescent, its not Islamic, it symbolizes something to do with Turkish history/culture.
Sounds like a forbidden fruit. Yet maybe this is also something that we could discuss in this changing socity. All theses days even these were the untouchables
ReplyDeletehow abt the DRP flag with a twist. i thnk ppl wud love the idea. atleast to talk abt it.anywayz after the next election we can change it again.we can introduce a new shape of flag. round, oval.nd abt the national anthem i dnt totaly agree2 change we can "remix".then v can debate whetha its a "new" anthem or "remixed".
ReplyDeleteThe melody of the anthem needs to be changed too. I don't believe that the current melody is an original composition but has been derived from an old Scottish song "Auld Lang Syne" which means "Times Gone By"!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good opportunity to say good bye to the melody as well. After all, there are potential Maldivian musicians who could create an original composition as our anthem.
Check out for more info on the melody (listen to the melody and note that the current lyrics of the anthem fits perfectly to this tune): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne

dude u must be craxy if u think the national anthem has to be changed.
ReplyDeletea national anthem inspires a country due to the tradition and history associated with it. and the memories it brings with it. its gonna mean nuthing at all for future generations and for us if the national anthem is goin to be changed from time to time like fashion changes. we need to stick with it and future generations will be more inspired than we are 4 sure. btw vathan edhey gothah is not gonna work at all. all of maumoons supporters hate the song and we cant have a national anthem which creates hatred and promotes seperation.
but i do agree that we should agree the national flag. not the national flag, but the flag of the president. we should remove the star cox it depicts wat christians associate with "the holy vergin mary". best wishes to all those who has commented as i can see that there is growing patriotism in our country. what we need to do now is to create more nationalistic generations which brings "dhivehi dhidhaige hiyaavahi kamah fahuruverivaa. dhivehi kandu thakah farhuruverivaa. dhivehi mibimah fahuruvaa. dhivehi gaumu dheke loabivaa dehivehi dharin"
