It is about time that full inventories of Theemuge and Aarah and all the other presidential compounds are released for public scrutiny!

Just a thought on the Presidential Palace and Aarah:
There are rumors that the outgoing president removed some equipment and items from the President’s Office and the Presidential palace (Theemuge) and even Aarah. It’s about time that the new government answers these rumors and states some facts.

Is it true that Gayyoom, during the last few days of his presidency, removed some expensive furniture and equipment such as large air conditioners from the President’s Office and the Palace? Is it true that the Palace and Aarah have been made thread bare after the outgoing president removed a number of items from these places?

It is about time that the public, and perhaps more importantly, the media are invited and given a tour of Theemuge and Aarah to see in what state those places are after Gayyoom’s departure. It is also about time that full inventories of Theemuge and Aarah and all the other presidential compounds are released for public scrutiny.

Why is the new regime keeping silent on this issue?

  1. Hi BUSHRY,
I REALLY LOVE TO READ YOUR ARTICLES.

EVER SINCE NASHEED WAS ELECTED THE PRESIDENT, I'VE BEEN LONGING TO SEE HIS WIFE'S PHOTO. I'M STUDYING ABROAD AND WAS NOT ABLE TO C THE TV COVERAGE OF THE DAY HE WAS SWORNED IN. SO COULD U PLS PLS PLS INCLUDE A PHOTO OF MR PRESIDENT WITH FIRST LADY?

  2. Bushry, I work at theemuge. That rumor about removing large aircons is definitely a lie. Because I am an AC technician and I can assure you the 'expensive furnitures' are still intact.

  3. Dear Bushry,

The regime is silent on this because it has more interesting things to do than to satisfy your childish curiosity.

    Regards,
    Shameem

  5. Hi Bush,

The reason why the new government is silent about Theemuge and Aaraqh is the fact that our new President is going to use those luxurious facilities. It's very definite that the President is going to reside at Theemuge and he will use Aarah as a priavte retreat like the outgoing President.

  6. Talk of auctioning the furniture in the palace in exchange for a couple of million dollars???!!!....and who in his right mind will come to Maldives to buy expensive interior decoration esp when it has no historic value???

and who think that people like david beckams lack of options in luxury destinations is such that, he would come to the most densely populated city on the face of the earth just so he could spend a few nights in a mansion (its not even a palace by the standards of the rich and famous, we fantasize will line up to sleep in theemuge) that is nestled next to a local market?

hilarious some of some of the suggestions that are coming our way, on this matter..... the presidential palace is a government building... it is an investment we cannot get full returns from by simply dismantling it!.... it would be best put to use by letting it fulfill its function!!..as a presidential residence!!!...that would be more befitting a president of a country than the Mayer of the local city....... i think we all have a problem with the president getting to stay there and not all of us......

Instead of this talk of selling off bits of it, or turning it into something it is NOT, why not think of ways to bring the cost of maintain it as the presidents residence down??...why not make it eco-friendly, energy conserving, climate-friendly??....

can we also dismantle the defense ministry building, the stelco building, the MMA building, the presidents office???..... abuse of power is not bu the buildings built by the other government, but by those from this government who will be residing it!!!!!...lets talk about that

are dhivehin this shallow and infantile??????

should we go through nasreena's personal items as well???....

How stupid do you think maumoon is, that he would spend time removing air conditioners and bits of furniture??? heeeheee this is reali funni mannn

the congestion and poverty in many parts of male' is such that we just want to go inside theemuge and caress those soft pillows, those mahogany tables....sheesh

i think ur diverting the ignorant pubics attention from the real issues.....an inventory must be made and made available for government purposes etc... but this is a mere dot on the more pressing issues we face

    geez

  7. This sounds more like a personal wish list!
How about making yearly reports for all government and private organizations more transparent...in which case such fetishes will not overcome the people.

  14. BUSHRY,

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO? TRY TO DIVERT PEOPLES ATTENTION FROM THE REAL ISSUES.

LETS TALK ABOUT THIS.... ANNI PROMISED USD 300 MILLION IN 10 DAYS AFTER TAKING OATH OF OFFICE. 4 MORE DAYS REMAINING? ANOTHER 300 MILLION DOLLAR LOAN FROM IMF? WHATS THE INTEREST RATE? OR PERHAPS ONE OF MDP FRIENDLY COUNTRIES GIVING OUT MONEY? EUROZONE IS IN FULL RECESSION. WHO IS GOING TO GIVE OUT MONEY?

100 DAYS MAN, 100 DAYS, IF HE AND HIS "MAGNIFICIENT CABINET" DOES NOT START DELIVERING HIS PROMISES. WE WILL BE OUT ON THE STREET, SHOWING HIM WHAT DEMOCRACY IS.

  18. Bushry deserves our respect.

He is the only one saying anything. Everyone else (including Minivan daily, DO, sappe, himeynigilaabu, MDP sites) dont say anything now.

imagine the amount of issues to discuss when 30 year regime collapses. But everyone has their mouths shut.

THIS IS A BIG BIG CONSPIRACY.. hama rayyathunah olhuvaalaa bodu olhuvaalun gandeh..

that is why everyone is saying haapu.

bushry, keep saying it even if they demolish your house.

  20. Is Bush a vicitim of new found democracy. Why he keep talking about Theemuge and Aarah.
Well, these are issues as well, but we have bigger things to address.
Like the reader comment above me said, nowadays all the opposition websites are not up to date. Well except for minivannews. I follow your blog bushry, but please leave this presidential palace and aarah retreat for a while. Iam against it, if anni resides there and use aarah as well. but we will address that a little bit later, AFTER pressing him to complete for important pledges he made.

  21. I am a MDP member and I do criticism the MDP Government.

I see a lack of transparency as promised, withholding information from the public and handing out Ministerial posts as gifts to friends and family members.

During the campaign period Zaki would give a news conference every time anni has a hiccup or a cough. Where is the information decimation now...Where is Zaki now or Maria....even if they are on media we still hear them bashing about Gayoom. Do you job now guys, why are you still talking about gayoom, he is gone. Show us how good you are at running the government.

If Anni back straddles on any of the promises made during the election including AArah, Theemuge, $300Mln dollars, and midterm elections, and manifesto. Then definitely we have lost confidence in the Govt and it will proove that Anni/MDP were lying to the public.

    We are watching closely.
