Some advise to the new government of Nasheed!

1. President: Hon. Mohamed Nasheed

Don’t stay at Theemuge. Muliaage is good enough. Don’t give a residence to Gayyoom (definitely not Muliaage and not even Hilaaleege). Gayyoom should be given a good pension and a generous housing allowance and reasonable security while he resides in the Maldives – but no need to give him a residence.

Shorten the length of the presidential term to four years.

2. Vice President: Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik

Will the Vice President have a separate office – say, “The Office of the Vice President” or will his office space be inside the President’s Office. This latter option seems more practical and feasible.

3. President of the Guardian Council for Islamic Affairs & Dhivehi Culture: Sheikh Majeed
(First Deputy: Sheikh Farooq)
(Second Deputy: Sheikh Hussain Rasheed)

A large Council of Islamic Scholars (without a fixed number) should be formed. Membership of this council should be open to all Maldivians who hold at least a first degree in Islamic studies or related field. Members should also have a clean criminal record. Ten members from this large Council should form the “Guardian Council for Islamic Affairs”. Members of the large Council will elect the ten members of the “Guardian Council for Islamic Affairs”. The President of the Guardian Council will also be elected by a vote of the large Council.

The Council should advise the President and the Vice President and the Cabinet Ministers and the male holders of all political posts to be an example to others by asking their wives to wear the veil.

An Islamic Centre to be setup in each capital island of each atoll. Such a center should have a qualified sheikh as Imam. It would have a capacity for at least one thousand people to congregate for prayer and it would have a conference hall, an Islamic Library, a set of classrooms to teach the Holy Koran and other Islamic teachings, an Audio Visual room, a computer lab and some recreational or sports facilities.

Foreign Minister: Dr. Shaheed
(Deputy: Dr. Farahanaz Faisal)

Many of the current (useless) embassies were opened under Dr. Shaheed’s watch when he was Foreign Minister for Gayyoom. I believe it was Gayyoom’s policies and not Dr. Shaheed’s. The Foreign Minister should make sure that full-fledged embassies are operated only at the most important locations and that the rest of the missions are converted to Trade Offices. Costs should be cut and efficiency should be increased.

The main focus of the foreign policies should be to attract investment from abroad and also establish a "Maldives Trust Fund" for the future. A certain percentage of our revenue should be saved in this fund. Foreign donors should be invited to donate to this fund. The purpose of the fund should be to build a huge “Safe Island” (hopefully by reclaiming the whole of the Vaavu Atoll), at a height of at least twenty to thirty feet above sea level. This landmass will be able to accommodate at least three to four hundred thousand people and have a huge transshipment harbour and almost unlimited land for factories and other industrial projects and work.

Home Minister: Dr. Hassan Saeed
(Deputy: Hon. Shaheed Zaki)

Atolls Ministry should be abolished and their work should be brought under the “Home Ministry”. HA, HD atolls should be combined as one atoll; GA, GD atolls should be combined similarly and AA and AD atolls should be combined as one atoll too. This will allow us to reduce the number of atolls to at most 17.

The national anthem of our country fails to inspire the new generation of Maldivian. I feel that even the anthem “Wathan Edhey Gothah” compiled by our first president (Mohamed Amin) is also a better tune and a better anthem than our national anthem. Perhaps this wouldn’t be a very popular idea, but I feel that we need to think and debate whether we could change our national anthem.

A South African style “Truth and Reconciliation Council” could be formed and headed by an independent Judge. The purpose of this council would not be to punish the criminals of Gayyoom regime but to find those crimes and make a sentence and keep the sentence as a suspended sentence or forgive altogether. But it is important to establish the crimes. But in the case of any corruption, such money should be directly retrieved from their bank accounts or businesses or it should be retrieved as much as possible by liquidating their assets such as land.

Work should be done to ban smoking in public places and stop people (especially expatriate laborers) from spitting on the road.

As per government regulations, the shops in Male close at 11.00pm. The closing time should be changed to 9pm.

All wards in all islands (including Male) need to be abolished. We would then have no need for ward offices which is an unnecessary bureaucracy and wasteful expenditure. Instead of having wards, the people in each island should unite as one people. The unit is not the “ward”, but the “island”. Despite the fact that land in Male is limited, it has five major cemeteries. These five plots of land could be used for much better purpose if we could relocate the cemeteries to Thilafusi or Hulhumale.

Min. of Defense & National Security: Brigadier Moosa Jaleel
(Deputy: Hon. Amin Faisal)
Chief of staff: Farhath Shaheer
(Deputy Colonel Nixam)

Restructure MNDF to orient it more as a civil defense force. Strengthen Coast Guard and include an “Air force” component with light aircraft for patrolling the seas and fishing zones.

Commissioner of Police: Major Latheef
Deputy Commissioner of Police: Mohamed Rizwan

Change the uniform of the “Star Force”! This uniform now brings fear and paranoia to our hearts.

Minister of Presidential Affairs: Hon. Maria
(Deputy Doctor DidI)
Chief Government Spokesman (or Chief Spokesman for the Presidnet): Ibrahim Hussain Zaki

The Chief Government Spokesman should meet the press preferably five days a week or all working days; or at least twice weekly.

Change the title of “Minister” as “Secretary”. This is the case in many developed countries such as the United Sates and the United Kingdom. For example, instead of having a Home Minister we could have a Home Secretary.

Speaker of the People’s Majlis: Hon. Mohamed Shihab
(Deputy: Hon. Hamza)

Amend the constitution to avoid anyone who has served two presidential terms to become president again.

Amend the constitution to stop state funds to all parties who fail to get at least one seat in the parliamentary election. No party who fails to get at least one parliamentary seat should get state funds.

Attorney General: Hon. Muththasim Adhnan
(Deputy: Hon. Dhiyaana)
Min. of Justice: Dr. Jameel
(Deputy: Husnu Sood )

Death penalty to be imposed for drugs traffickers. This isn’t only an Islamic thing. Death penalty is practiced in Singapore too.

Min. of Housing, Construction & Public Infrastructure: Hon Aslam Shakir
(Deputy: Hon. Shahid (Saabey)
Min. of (Planning), Development and mega Projects: Hon. Gasim Ibrahim
(Deputy: Dr. Mohamed Shareef – Sarippey

A certain percentage of the state revenue should be saved in a new fund called the Maldives Trust Fund. Foreign donors should be invited to donate to this fund. The purpose of the fund should be to build a huge “Safe Island” (hopefully b y reclaiming the whole of the Vaavu Atoll), at a height of at least twenty to thirty feet above sea level. This landmass will be able to accommodate at least three to four hundred thousand people and have a huge transshipment harbour and almost unlimited land for factories and other industrial projects and work.

The proposed transshipment harbour at HA Atoll should be realized. Addu Atoll Gan should have a huge hotel, and the runway there should be extended and the possibility of a parallel runway there should be explored. A new layer of Iranian tar should be laid on the Gan runway to enable international flights to land there without the risk of slipping. A seaplane harbour should be built at Gan too. Laamu Atoll should become an industrial zone an factories should be setup there.

Min. of Health: Dr. Abdul Sattar Yousuf
(Deputy: Dr. Aminath Jameel)

International level hospital to be setup here so that Maldivians do not have to go abroad for medical treatment.

We need to rethink our current stand on population control. Is it helping our economic development? In a way we have limitless land, so if we let our population grow freely, that could help our development instead of controlling population growth.

Min. of Environment, Energy, & Water: Dr. Riza
(Deputy: Dr. Mohamed Ali)

Wind energy, wave energy, solar energy, better sewage and water in all capital islands at least.

Study the benefits of taking Stelco and MWSC public.
Once the study is done, take the right action immediately.
Stelco & MWSC could be combined as one single entity under the Utility concept.

Min. of Tourism & Civil Aviation: Hon. Mahmood Razi
(Deputy: Hon. Abdullah Solih)

Stop Sri Lankans controlling our tourism industry through their companies such as the Aitkin Spence and John Keels.

Introduce new concepts of toursim such as educational toursim, medical toursim, sports toursim (cricket, surfing, etc.). Also allow highrise hotels in some resorts instead of making all resorts as low-rise resorts.

Min. of Trade and Industry: Hon. Ahmed Mjuthaba
(Deputy: Hon. Ali Shiyam)
Min. of Finance & Treasury: Hon Arif Hilmy
(Deputy: Dr. Riyaz )
Governor of MMA: Hon. Shafinaz Abdul Sattar

Make us dollar a floating exchange but hold the current rate for at least 6 to 12 months.

Attract foreign investment to mega projects. Diversify the economy. Establish a Maldives Trust Fund. Invest that fund's money in the US or Europe.

Min. of Sports, Arts & Vocational Education: Hon. Shafeeq (DO Sappe)
(Deputy: Hon. Hamidh Abdul Gafoor)

Increase the use of vocational education in the schools and also establish vocational educational schools.

Establish sports academies / schools where the normal curriculum of schooling is taught but it the school will be oriented for only those who wish to excel in a certain sport or art. For example their could be a football academy / school where normal O’level subjects are taught but the school will focus on developing young footballers to feed to the clubs and the national team.

Sports Tourism could be promoted by establishing an international level cricket stadium and hosting international cricket matches. We could take advantage of the popularity of the sport in the region – in countries such as India, Sri lanka.

Min. of Education and Youth: Hon. Ibrahim Ismail (Ibra)
(Deputy:Dr. Amal Ali)

Open the first University of Maldives and invest in promoting educational tourism by attracting foreign lecturers and foreign students to this university.

Establish sports academies / schools where the normal curriculum of schooling is taught but it the school will be oriented for only those who wish to excel in a certain sport or art. For example their could be a football academy / school where normal O’level subjects are taught but the school will focus on developing young footballers to feed to the clubs and the national team.

what is it with you and veil? can you tell us Bush?

I call upon president-elect Nasheed to set the good example by asking his beloved wife (Laila) to wear the veil (even fashinable buruga is fine). We all bombarded Gayyoom for saying that wearing of the veil is an optional thing for his wife (Nasreena). If Nasheed's wife doesn't wear the veil then the journalists are bound to ask why, ... and if Nasheed says that it's up to Laila, then Nasheed and Gayyoom would have been the same on the issue of the veil. If Nasheed wants to get elected for a second terms (even at the mid-term election) then he needs to match his economic drive with his policies on moderate Islam. Wearing of the veil is not a fundamentalist thing. We are not talking about hijab or the so-called "balck tent" but real colourful, fashinable veil or scarf is just fine. If Laila and Maria and Nasheed follow the advise of the hardline-elements in the party and marginalise the idea of the veil, then it is bound to haunt the political future of MDP and Nasheed.

  3. Veil or wearing "burugaa" is something almost all Islamic scholars agree upon.

The foundation of Islam should be strenghtened in Maldives. We do not want to see youth going towards western and Indian styles and way of living.

Lets wait and see. I will not be surprised if Mr.Nasheed also brings in corrupt members of public and have a bunch of useless people in his cabinet and then go forward like a dictator. I will applaude him only when he can team up with good people. Dr.Shaugee is already trying to become tourism minister on Gasim's ticket. Shaugee is a hypocrite and we have to be careful with him.

Is it wise to give ministerial posts to the parliamentarians.

I think people like Ibra etc should stay as an MP caz that is were the real change happens and policies being implemented.

My advise is not to include MPs as ministers, currently DRP holds the majority in parliament, if we further give ministerial portfolios to MPS then we will loose our voting power in the parliament.

To all ye true "believers" of Islam and "protectors of the Islamic faith" in the Maldives:

I challenge ALL you morons, dimwits & retards to explain to me how you all reap the fruits from an industry that is built upon the selling of alcohol in this country. EVERYONE, and I mean everyone in this country seem to agree there is nothing wrong with this.

We all KNOW this but now my turn for Quran & other preaching:

"They ask you (O Muhammad ) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allâh makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought." - Al-Baqarah 2:219

On Buying & Selling "Allah's Messenger(sallallahu alaiyhi wasallam)cursed ten people in connection with wine: the wine-presser, the one who has it pressed, the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who benefits from the price paid for it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought." - Narrated Anas ibn Malik(r.a.)

On Medicinal use - "Wa'il said: Tariq ibn Suwayd or Suwayd ibn Tariq asked the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wasallam) about wine, but he forbade it. He again asked him, but he forbade him. He said to him: Prophet of Allah, it is a medicine. The Prophet said: No it is a disease." - Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar(r.a.)

Enough already? I can go on!

Now tell me, how do you fuckwits talk about the veil and God knows what else and preach good Islam when this is ALLOWED & FOLLOWED by every "good" Muslim in this country.

Answer me this and then go on with your other ramblings. Otherwise shut the F UP!!!

Let everyone else live their own lives.

PS: oh, btw, the allowance for the use of Alcohol is also authorized on a piece of official document signed by Muslim government officials with the Bismi on top. Hypocrites!!!

DRP parliamentary leader Ms.Aneesa Ahmed has submitted a security and welfare bill for ex president.

It seems the bill can pass easily since DRP and PA entertain the majority of the parliament if it tabled prior 11th November 2008.(after 11th November there would be changes for presidential appointees in the Majilis). As per the current news in the town , DRP and PA trying to make Maumoon to live in Muliaage. We totally disagree with this idea. Maumoon got a house from Male named Ma,Kibigasdhoshuge, and his wife Nasreena too got a house named M,Endherimaaage. If they don’t have a house in Male we can provide house allowance not a land to make them live in Male.

Bush... great work u r doing here to advocate citizens views.

While we congratulate Anni, how many people have thought that now he has a tougher job. First he has to distribute cabinet posts like 'ganeemaa mudhaa' or the spoils of war.

Anni has a very difficult balancing act between choosing people in the Alliance (many loaded with greed) whom he has to please vs being seen as a non-corrupt person.

I would urge Anni to show leadership. Infact this is the ultimate opportunity to show Anni's leadership as a peoples person. This can be done only if he chooses non-corrupt people.

Anni , please be wise and take the risk. This is the time to bring down the axe to clean up MDP. if you are wise you would relay more on MDP then presidency.

A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. So dont forget to elect a star cabinet.

    1. Agree on this. But on the last point, why 4 years?

    2. ok

    3. Like the overall idea but not everyone will agree to the viel issue.

More points: I would like an embassy/high commission in australia. Also dont agree on a safe island that size. What would the environmental costs of such a thing be?

I support banning smoking in public spaces as well as introducing a government waste management force (garbagepeople).

I am totally against moving cemeteries out into hulhumale and thilafushi. I wouldnt want to go outside male' everytime i want to visit a dead relative or friend.
    Not many people would.

All the utilities could be made into one large company...it would make paying bills so much easier. But would the new company be as efficient with the added bureaucracy/heirarchy? Also as small is the maldivian sharemarket is, it would make it even smaller if these companies go public and then merge.

new flag and anthem will be quite unpopular ideas. In this last election, alot of people have shown that they dont want change (be it due to unawareness or any other reason), and alot more people would be against that issue. Personally, I agree with you.

Am against shops closing at 9.pm.What would be the purpose of this? It will make life even more difficult for the people.

I doubt any of the new maldives ministers would want to be in the cabinet. As someone said, it would be better for them including ibra to contest for the parliment again and later in the presidential elections.

    but its their decision.

what do mean by a civil defence force?

    No comments on the rest.:)

Yeah you are doing a great job here, I would say.

Some points that need improvement are

1- stop any personal attacks be it Maumoon, Yamin , Gasim or any one.

2- Find proof and facts on what you write.

3-When writing on a religous issue, present facts from Quran, Hadith and opinion of religous scholars. And leave little room for your own opinion.

4-Keep in mind there will be negative comments especially on religous issues, as we all know there are non Muslims in our society now.Let it be there.

I also would like to pointout, since you publish all negative comments aswell, shows your integrity.

But in future, I hope you will keep these points in mind.

I would like to present you an example of such a blog.that is abdullahwaheeds blog.

I support and shall ALWAYS support Maumoon first and foremost because he is and has ALWAYS been a people's man.Never has he EVER had anything but a kind word and a smile for anyone. He is our first leader/president who made himself approachable to the common man.He taught us that that even a president is human as well as humane.Thirty years in power had not affected his inborn humble demeanour at all.The aura of quiet dignity and sheer integrity that exudes from him gains the trust of and wins the the heart of everyone that he meets. Those qualities along with his natural geniality commands even those who strive to blacken his name to be respectful in his presence.
He built this country from scratch at a time when the people had all but given up on what we so readily and proudly call "our beloved nation" today. He is the person who envisioned the true potential that was hidden in our sleepy decrepit islands. His faith in the true worth of our motherland drove him to work tirelessly and valiantly to transform our existence from a mere speck in the Indian ocean into the modern metropolitan hub that we see today. It from the seeds sown by him that we harvested the fruits that we are now enoying. He made singing national songs and sporting our flags into "hip" culture. He is the person who deserves the real credit for instilling this new found patriotism in our hearts.
Mamoon is simply the best "veriyegge rivethi thassavar" that we have had in our history! However much people try to hide, deny and defy it,he still remains as "gaumugu hungaanugaa hunnavan emme ekasheegenvaa molhu keyolhu".Thank you for holding our hands during the transition period where we were crawling before we could walk. Some of us may have chosen to forget or overlook this detail (surprising how easily Maldivians can alter their memories at will to suit their own ends and means!) ,but I assure you that there are MANY among us who still remember and recognise that fact.God is a witness to the truth that we support and that is sufficient for us!NO ONE can erase the name of MAUMOON ABDUL GAYOOM from Maldivian history.
Maumoon, please do not give up on us just yet. Please do not let the dogs and vultures take away everything that we have ALL worked together to create. Please do not let these people violate the sanctity of our motherland just as easily as they have managed to cloud our sense of righteousness. They have betrayed and shamed us by their petty greed and ignorance. Please forgive those of us who have succumbed have to their immediate craving for materialistic gains because they not know any better. Please do not let our sweat and blood all go to waste-PLEASE HELP US SAVE OUR BELOVED WATHAN from these crooks.Today,we appeal to you because in addition to being the father of democracy,YOU ARE ALSO THE FATHER OF A NATION!Please do not desert us in our hour of need.We may have lost a battle, but together we can win this war!!!

hey bushry, ive got an idea. how about we all wear the veil? men, women and children..even the lil babies that are born?? yeesh. wat the heck is wrong with u dude? u seem to be stuck with "the veil". here's another idea. if u want all women to wear the veil, first u start wearin the veil in public and if ur married, u get ur wife to wear one too if she doesnt wear one already. but most importantly, u shud prove that ur willin to wear the veil befor u get all the women to wear the veil.

    Did you know!!
The veil signified a woman's self-respect and social status. Women often wear the veil to give the impression of a higher standing, prostitutes often wore a special headscarf in order to look respectable.
