President Nasheed has had three days at the office now. Let’s examine some of his statements and actions during these three days, to see if he is keeping to his promises.1. During the campaigning for the first round of the presidential election, many candidates (including Nasheed and Dr. Hassan Saeed) said that, if elected as president, they will not reside at the current Presidential Palace (Theemuge). Dr. Hassan of course came third in the first round and so we did not get a chance to see if he would have kept his promise. Nasheed went for the second round and he of course won the lection. Now is the time to see whether President Nasheed would keep to his promise.
After being elected as President, Nasheed has said that his government will submit a bill to the Majlis regarding the facilities available for president. This would mean that the Majlis will decide where the president would reside. Some cynics now argue that Nasheed will instruct the Iththihaadh MPs to vote for the president to stay at Theemuge so that Nasheed can blame the Majlis for “putting” him in Theemuge. I do not agree to this. I believe that President Nasheed will make sure that the Majlis rules for the president to stay at Muliaage and not Theemuge!2. At a press conference after being elected as President, Mohamed Nasheed said that he hasn’t yet decided what the new government’s policy would be regarding the existing presidential retreat (Aarah). I wonder if his answer would have been the same if he were questioned about Aarah during the election campaign! Some cynics say that there are elements within the new government who are influencing Nasheed to make him retain the luxury presidential retreat.
Some people say that Nasheed’s Home Minister (Gasim) is still ambitious to become president and that Gasim would like Nasheed to keep the presidential retreat so that this facility will be available for Gasim when Gasim become president. I do not know how far this is true, but judging from Nasheed’s humbleness at the Friday Prayers today – when he stayed with the ordinary people in the mosque – it seems to me that president Nasheed will find a better use for Aarah rather than retaining it for his personal enjoyment!3. Personally, I think we don't need so many "Minister of State" positions. If we have a Permanent Secretary for each specific area under the ministry, then we can have just a Minister and a Deputy.
For example if there is a Ministry called "Minister of Civil Aviations, Tourism and Culture", we could have three Permanent Secretaries for the three areas (1. Tourism, 2. Culture, 3. Civil Aviations). Then if we have a Minister and a Deputy Minister that's enough. Too many State Ministers seem like "political gifts". This makes the government too top-heavy. Sad to see this happening.
4. I would also like to note that – while most of the new appointments to the government are very capable and young leaders - there are some shady characters in it too.
Personally I do not endorse the appointment of Kerafa Naseem as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. We all know his shady deals while he was in charge of the Foreign Investment Services Bureau at the Trade Ministry. It's not me who says that he is a crook. I din't say that. At the latter stages of the freedom struggle by MDP, Kerafa Naseem played a significant role. I appreciate that and thank him for that. But that does not justify his appointment to such a post when there are so many people who question his past actions!
The new appointed state ministers r the actual cabinet if ppl voted for only MDP.. BUt sadly ppl voted for Coalition. So anni was presured to give cabinet posts as Gasim and Hassan Saeed instructed. Gasim and hassan Saeed were important at that time. Coz the most important target was to remove gayyoom.. This can only be done with the help of both Gasim and Hassan. But i still donno why Anni appointed Dr.Didi for that post. I donn think Gasim and hassan vil force him to appoint Dr.didi for fisheries. I also agree with bush on number of state ministers. BUt the actual cabinet does not have good ppl. So this is only way for Nasheed to fullfill his 5 promises by appointing capable ppl as state ministers.. and ohh yea kerafaa naseem post is just a gift for him.. Thank u mr.naseem for ur hard work to bring down gayyoom.. but i personally can't trust u coz of ur history.. thanks

I still donot understand why 16% voted Hassan Sassy and almost same amount of votes went for Qasim. why, why!!
ReplyDeleteI see Hassan Sissy very Gayoomistic. He is somekind of freak weirdo!! Phoney and very fake!
Qasim- nothing much to say, except that if he wants to be loved by people, be a business who practice the business within the laws and rules and help people the way he has been helping. Qasim will not be accepted as a President.
Now Anni needs to be careful with what he do. We have learned so much and we expect a lot from him. If we elect him because he said he will not use Theemuge mean he can not use it. Then on his campagne he should make it clear he will seek majlis assistance to change presidential residence. We hate our president lie.
This is the change we voted for?
ReplyDeleteKerafa Naseem. One of the biggest crooks Maldives has ever seen, You guys think he did a lot for Anni? give me a break..all what he did in Colombo was to chase young sri Lankan girls and drink.
Ahmed Mujustha, who the hell is this guy? This guy was last seen as a secretary in telecommunications department some years back, if somebody think this is a smart guy then god help us.
Shafeeq (Sappe)a hooligan, nothing else.
I feel sorry for Anni, he has been cornered like a rat by Gasim, Hassan Saeed, M.W Hassan Manik.
This is our mandela, gandhiji....so act like them Mr President.
don't worry bushry, things are going to be fine. just as it was before. now theemuge is being spring cleaned for our simple president to live in. President's Office is the new haruge. Its open door. Anybody can come and go. Especially if you are MDP. And you can do anything you want in there. You can even get coffee and camel hard if you want. Protocol is a word of the old Maldives. And everything is decided at the PO coffee tables. Now that's progress for you all.

2. Zaki

Hama saabahey dhenneveynee..
bushry, no point in writing these things.. People will only laugh at you.
ReplyDeleteGovernment is under siege now and Anni is a puppet of a group. Isnt it very clear.
So no point is stating the obvious.
I don't see a reason it will be a problem; as long as the benefits don't overshoot. Like cars and other benefits for each. Having more man power is always good. The name does not matter.
ReplyDeleteHello guys
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with the recent appointment of so many State Ministers. Does anyone know how much a State Minister cost to us? It's a huge burden on our budget. What we are seeing is a top heavy government like the one we had for the last 30 years.
Let's do some maths. The remuneration package for a State Minister is around Rf47,000 and the monthly benefits for a Minister is around Rf57,000. Deputy Ministers' benefits is around Rf35,000 per month. So,
# Monthly benefits for all 14 State Ministers=658,000 Rufiyaa
# Monthly benefits for the 14 Ministers=798,000 Rufiyaa
#Monthly benefits for Deputy Ministers=490,000
#Total cost per month= 1,946,000 Rufiyaa. This is almost the same that the previous government had been paying for the senior appointments. SO I don't see any difference in terms of the size and costs of the new government.
I don't want to see any more senior appointments but what's happening seems that it is very likely that we may have 28 Deputy Ministers!
Lisba
Obviously the medicine (Anni) has cured the disease that is Maumoon. That job is done.
ReplyDeleteBut all of a sudden the nation is experincing side effects from the medicine that is more painfual and heartbreaking than original disease itself.
The medicine is effective but poisonous too. Hope this medicine doesn't kill us all.
Pleeees!!! No more Deputy Minsiters and no more State Minsiters and no more Special Envoys of the President and no more Special Advisors to the Presidnet and no more ambasadors (except to replace an existing one)! Is this the "lean government" that our party promised us? Zaki has all of a sudden forgotten about the usd 80 million that he said the dictator gayyoom had in a foreign account! Zaki must be ashamed to lie like this.
ReplyDeleteI agree. No more deputies, state ministers and envoys and presidential advisors and ambassadors.... Waht does president Nasheed think? That he can create any post he wants and hand out those jobs as gifts to even crooks if those crooks happen to lend him a helping hand? This is plain unfair and undemocratic and this is corrupt politics too. I would soon be ashamed to have voted for this new government is they continue to make such corrupt and unnecessary appointments to top jobs. Please stop this shameful charade.
ReplyDeleteSome of these appointments seem like robbing a hose and giving some of the loot to the residents of the same house. Isn't this what the members of the new government accused the dicttator-gayyoom of when gayyoom was ruling (or raping) us. Isn't MDP duing the same sort of ruling (or raping) now?
ReplyDeleteyou also need to address issues like giving away tourist resorts for 99 years to money suckers.
ReplyDeleteAmong other things... Transport system. 2000mrf for 65yr olds.
btw have anyone of you seen the video interview of meemu sappe (state home minister) to a sri lankan news paper. I am really very doubtful of his capability, and trying to match it with responsibility is creating a mess in my ahead.
coin
Ha! Ha! ha! Ha! Ha! Heeeeee
ReplyDeleteThis is just the beginning of our new government. Early signs show that the new government ain't gonna be better than Maumoon's administration.
ReplyDeleteIt's high time we thought about these issues. We should be vigilant at all times about every move that the new administration takes.

ReplyDelete“I think that sometimes during campaigns the rhetoric gets overheated and amplified….Politicians are always guilty of that, and certainly President Nasheed is not an exempt.” They will flip-flop and back straddle on the statements they made.
ReplyDeleteI don’t see any reason why the president shouldn’t reside at the presidential palace or use Aarah as a retreat. But it would be nice if the public can view these two places, through a guided tour through, selling limited tickets per week as a donation (to some just cause)
Bush you are making a mountain out of a molehill. What would you tell next? The former NSS head quarters be turned to an amusement park.
Please Talk about real Issues, like Economy, Industry and Labor Laws, Health Care, Housing, Unemployment Benefits.
I have an 11 year old cousin who could really be a good Tourism Minister, he is very good at Math and Computer at School. If MDP wants to hire him please contact me.
ReplyDeleteGive me a break, Tourism Minister Sawaad has he ever been employed anywhere in Maldives before. I heard he was studying for his Phd when Gasim grabbed him. Can someone publish this guys resume and work experience.
And Mr Bushry, Gasim has already stopped financing the students who are already studying under Villa scholarship scheme. And they have no other ways of financing their studies to finish their 2nd/3rd year at the Universities.
Students are unable to pay their course/extermination fees. Buruma Gasim is this what you boasted about how you help people during your campaign.
Dosent Anni knows that smoking in Government Offices is banned.
ReplyDeleteIs the president breaking the rules and regulations of Government.
Hey Anni stop smorking in The Presidential office.
Ask anni why Kerafaa Naseem was given a Ministerial post knowing that the guy is convicted relating to Nov 3rd attack by Tamil Tigers.
ReplyDeleteI voted for anni. But this is one reason why we must all vote for opposition MP's in the next parliament election. I will vote for Opposition MP's this time.
Giving posts as gifts to People huh
You vote get votes unless you keep the Government clean of corrupt characters.
MDP member
Just like Obama duped the Americans, Anni has duped us.
ReplyDeleteVote for Change....Yes we can...
After those slogans and catch phrases...nothing no experience, bad behavior like smoking in office ( even in Annis speech he was like repeating the campaign promises all over again)
Kerafaa Naseem - mee ves THAAHIRU DHIRI ULHUMEH THA
ReplyDeleteMaldivian Democratic Party website is dysfunctional.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.maldiviandemocraticparty.org/
The web site has been renamed to:
http://voteanni.com
MDP is not the property of Anni, reinstate the earlier name of the website immediately. Is this the the change we wanted? No.
He is messing around with our party's web address/URL.
helo guys.. give sometime to dat kerafa character to prove himself.. its not gud to judge a person by his previous behaviours n staf he commited.. this is the " anneh divehi rajje" so pple might have changed for better...
ReplyDeletepleeez be optimists not pessimists .. things r gonna be better dan maumoon era..
I am inclined to give all members of the Cabinet and the political appointees a chance at proving their capability. The Majlis has given them 30 days to come up with revisions to the mandate etc - so why shouldnt we?
ReplyDeleteI guess in "Aneh Dhivehi Raajje" people are innocent until proven guilty. Most of the political appointees and Cabinet members come with a questionable background and lack of previous experience or knowledge of their assigned area. However, they may still be able to deliver on the promises of the new government if they put a mind to it.
It will take time to adapt to the ways of a new President. The people have elected Anni as President, and everyone (including those in the government and civil service) has to respect the people's wishes, regardless of their personal preferences.
"..At the latter stages of the freedom struggle by MDP, Kerafa Naseem played a significant role..."
ReplyDeleteWhat freedom struggle you are talking about? Did u get freedom from British rule?
I certainly have lost my hope, where all those highly educated, young professionals in Maldives. Anni, you dont have to bend yourself or dance to the tunes of these corrupt guys. You proved yourself that no one can dictate terms to you when you were an activist. This is why I voted for you
ReplyDeletenot even 2 weeks now, we see following changes in media.
ReplyDelete1. Dhivehi observer stopped quick updates
2. Minivandaily stoped.
3. MDP site stopped uploading
4. Minivannews don't update so much.
The infomation flow is being stopped. There are things to hide.
Certainly not the transparent goverment we expected.
We don't know whats happeing now like we don't know whats inside theemeuge and Aaarah. same thing machaa..
Since anni is hiring shady characters.
ReplyDeleteAs a member of MDP i expect him to keep every word he said to the dot.
And that includes his promise about Aarah & Palace and Mid term election.
Certainly, we see information being stopped. And shady characters in the Government.
ReplyDeleteWe still give them the chance to run a clean Government. We have limits, when the Government exceeds that, then we will stop supporting MDP.
Just like Tourism Minister Sawaad, Anni also held no formal job. Was he living off through his wife's income or family handouts. Thats really gross. Real men should always work.
I hope Anni doesn't make it a "FALSAFAA" to hire shady characters during his term in office.
ReplyDeleteIs kerafaa a cokroach
ReplyDeletegood points raised. keep it up. anni is our hero n saviour but no one is perfect. we being humans are inclined to follow our 'havaa nafsu'. so we need to remind him again n again before he became another 'zaeem'. http://opposeanni.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWe need to create a new post.
ReplyDeleteSpecial President to the President.
Job Function - Thinking on behalf of the President.
Gasim is hijacking the MDP Government. We should really be cautious of the guy and his business partners with corruption infested reputations.
ReplyDeleteHey Anni have you gone crazy to handover so many important ministries and important positions to Jumhooree party's money grabbers.
LOLLLL........Jumhooree party is even appointing MP's to the parliament on behalf of the president. Is Gasim the president or Anni.
wht to do, the one Dr. hassan who is much better than anni we didnt elect. had hassan being elected, we wouldnt be seing things like this.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, what the hell is Anni doing? He and his family visited Aarah friday afternoon (His wife, Mum and Dad) well its a nice treat isnt it Anni?
ReplyDeleteAnni will be moving into Theemuge on 1st december (Parliament is suppose to ask hi, and he will abide by the humble ruling...lol) yeah go into the university Anni.
It will be matter of days our hero will start driving the mercedes with dark tinted glass and the force he loved around him
well done...this is exactly what we wanted, well, we have thrown out the dictator.
Shame on you Anni, are you ruling the country or somebody else?
I would not be surprised, Ameen faisla revolting and throwing out the elected Govt. Well there is a family history of ruthless defence minister at athireege (Abdullahi didi) who loves to walk on peoples chest. Ameen Faisal Father assisted some people, (dont want to name, Bushry might not publish this comment)to throw Nasir out.
Is Adhaalath party alive or dead?
ReplyDelete@ anonymous above me:
ReplyDeletePreferably Dead.
I want to see Golhaa and his cronies out from the government and that's all. Nothing more from Anni. That, he has done and I thank him for that. I am sure that anyone and everyone whom Anni has chosen if not connected to Golhaa, may not be perfect but will be better.
ReplyDelete@ anonymous above me.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be one of the dumbest sorry SoBs I've ever come across. Man, keep it up. That's some smart thinking.
Problem is there are thousands of our generation who think the same way.
yaamyn, probably you have not come to MARUKAZ for the friday prayers.
ReplyDeletethey are very much alive and they are very determined to stay alive mate.
it takes one dumb guy to know another...
ReplyDeleteIf all of u consider all these to be serious issues why dont yall call for a re-election nd let Maumoon back into power. Will the majority of the Maldives agree with this?
ReplyDeleteVery Disturbing Stuff here
