1. Retire the Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir and appoint a new Commissioner of Police. The new appointment could perhaps be Latheef.
2. Retire the Chief of Staff Mohamed Zahir and appoint a new Chief of Staff. The new appointment could perhaps be Moosa Jaleel.
3. Retire some of the leading officers of the Coast Guard (such as Zakariyya) and appoint new officers to head the Coast Guard.
4. Abolish or restructure the Sifainge Ekuveri Kunfuni (SEK) which is a free license for some officers in the MNDF to abuse powers and practice corrupt activities. Also revise the regulation that governs the retirement of MNDF staff which currently favours officers and is plainly unfair to low-rank service people in the MNDF.
5. Dhoonidhoo Island was used by former presidents (Nasir and Gayyoom) as torture chambers for Maldivians. At the dawn of this new era of democratic governance, it will be most appropriate to close the jail at Dhoonidhoo and convert the island as a resort for Maldivians. The island could then be renamed as “Dhoonidhoo Dhivehi Fushi”!
6. At a press conference after being elected as President, Mohamed Nasheed said that he hasn’t yet decided what the new government’s policy would be regarding the existing presidential retreat (Aarah). I wonder if his answer would have been the same if he were questioned about Aarah during the lection campaign! If he were asked about Aarah during the campaign, I’m sure he would not have hesitated for even one second before saying that he would not use Aarah as a presidential retreat and that his government would find a better use for the island. Now President Nasheed is saying that he needs more time to decide what he would do with Aarah. In an earlier post on this blog I suggested that Aarah could be changed as a holiday resort for Maldivians. But now I suggest that Dhoonidhoo-Jail-Island would be a better choice for conversion as a holiday resort for Maldivians. Aarah could be put up for international bid and leased as a luxury resort for mega-rich billionaires such as Abrahamovich, Prince Al Walid and other billionaires from China, India, United States, United Kingdom, Middle East, etc. The Luxury yacht that Gayyoom used could also be leased along with Aarah. This will bring huge revenue for our tourism industry and provide a new form of tourism as well.
i have a huge issue with maldivian politicians. whats wrong rewarding the head of the republic with a luxury life? what ever expenses incurred building Theemuge or purchasing Presidential yatch has incurred.
ReplyDeleteThe life and benefits of the president of Maldives should reflect to a same extent as rich tycoons of Maldives. We hated Theemuge and Aarah as it was labelled as private properties of Maumoon. We did forget that someday we will see other presidents in Maldives.
Presidential Yatch was not only used by Maumoon in the past. Foriegn dimplomats such as Clinton, Big Bush and others used the same when they visit Maldives. Isn't this something we should be proud of?
If living a posh presidential life doesn't compare to that of ordinary Maldivians, the government should reduce the gap.
Imagine if Maldivians elect another president such as Gasim, who would definitely choose Theemuge as his residence. Imagine the costs that would incure changing the place again to a presidential palace.
this is my opinion as a maldivian who contributes to the nation as a tax payer.
Golhaabo is sending thugs to the Parliament building to shout and assault the MP's. Anni under estimated Gayoom and DRP.
ReplyDeleteThese crooks should be brought to justice and their stolen monies should be confiscated.
This is the only way to teach them a lesson and a lesson to future crooks and thugs.
as a tax payer i prefer my hard earned money to be used to improve the current situation of the country, with drugs, poverty, human rights than the posh life for the president, whoever could be. I hope and pray that Anni would not dissapoint the true believers in him when he was an ordinary man like us. HE STILL IS. but his job descriptions is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteRetire the Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir and appoint a new Commissioner of Police. The new appointment could perhaps be Latheef.
ReplyDeleteBushry. are you out of your mind? Do you want the corrupt latheef to be the commissioner of police? didn't you hear that he went to thinadhoo and distributed money to people to campaign for gayoom
The President is showing a lot of common sense. This is a time of national consensus building and good-will. For all their faults the Chief of Police and Chief of staff are experienced functionaries that can bring a lot of stability and continuity to the system. Surely Maldives could ill-afford to waste such resources.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the time for a witch-hunt, and that’s what the President seemed to suggest in his previous pronouncements. If the police and national security forces top-brass are suspected of wrong doing, then without beating about the bush, investigate the allegations, bring forth charges and convict them if guilty. Unless proven guilty before a judge, a person is presumed innocent.
We are Muslims, and we have absolutely no right to character assassinate people, which itself is an offence. A person's good name and reputation is inviolable in the Islamic way, unless a person has indisputable, concrete evidence to the contrary.
The President has to realize that Maldives is no longer some lost in the Indian Ocean chain of islands. He has been elected the president of a country that’s by Allah's Grace, firmly placed in the world map. Further he has taken charge of an economy that’s earned the highest per capita income in South Asia, and an economy that’s resilient and so placed that it can afford to pay its elder citizens around Mrf. 2000/- per month.
With this being so, the President of Maldives has got to bear in mind he represents the Maldivian nation, and when he greets foreign heads of state, then he got to present a chic, sophisticated and ultimately up to the mark face of Maldives. The days when Maldives was with the begging bowl in front of international powers I hope and pray is over. Allah has blessed us with more than that. Alhamdulillahi
For this the head of our state needs a Presidents office and a Presidents residence that lives up to international standards fit for a country that has the confidence to meet any head of state on an equal footing. This country by Allah’s Grace cannot have complexes that prevent it from showing Allah’s blessings that it receives. Maldives cannot afford to waste the good-will and standing it has achieved first in the region, and then far beyond that. The Presidents office, his residence and retreat ARE NOT LUXURIES but absolute essentials that earn the Maldives huge benefits that even though intangible are so huge that Maldives can ill afford to waste; however expedient this maybe politically.
I am sure that the President sees that Maldives cannot be seen to regress.
Finally, the President has his plate full of problems. The primordial problem is not the economy, transport, health or even drugs. The mother of all problems is trying to change our lives – both individually and as a nation to be guided by the holy Koran and the Hadis.
If the president succeeds in this, then all other problems would find solutions within the Koran and Hadis. Then living in a magnificent palace, the president and the citizens of Maldives, would realize is just a tool and adjunct to portraying a successful, portent, caring, and modern Islamic nation to the world at large. Even to this day Alhambra represents to the whole wide world what brilliance Islam had achieved by adjusting life according to principles enshrined in the Koran and Hadis. This brilliance was even more so remarkable, beacause it was achieved when Europe was still in the grips of the dark ages.
May Allah Guide our President and all Maldivians. Amen!
Jasmine
are you an advisor to the president?
ReplyDeleteTo the above guy.
ReplyDeleteWell, some has to got to advice the President.
Why are u scared of it.
bushry, ur an idiot running after fame and lamentin the days that u got a lot of attention. so stop tryin to make these inconsequention things into big ass issues and try to focus on things like the social problems we face, the low educational standards, the huge budget deficit and so forth. as Jasmine said, the simple fact is that though intangible, the yacht, the palace and the fortress like office edifice is necessary to portray the wealth and prestige of our nation. and to the anonymous dude who says "somebody's gotta give advice" in regard to bushry, well dude, most of bushry's columns dont seem to indicate he's exactly quality advisor material.
ReplyDeleteAs a tax payer, Theemuge, Yatch, Aarah is property of the Republic. They should be used by upcoming presidents - however, they could reduce costs. Costs have been bloated due to corruption and malpractice, not purely for maintenance.
ReplyDeleteIf we abolish these places, someone else down the line will want build something even more extravagant. What has been done has been done, let's move forward.
hey this Zayd guy and Jasmine are Adam Zahir and two-two relatives huh? We want to say no to the two pillars of the dictatorial regime. We also need a "hiththiri" leader. Not an extravagant one. so we say no to the yachts and the Aaaarah and Theeemuge.
ReplyDeleteIf Anni goes back on his promise and if he lives in Theemuge or if he uses Aarah or the yachts we will dump him just as we dumped Gayyoom.
ReplyDeleteThis Jasmine is a nutter studying in UK. She has a nutter blog - " maldivians for Islam"
ReplyDeleteBushri cant u keep nutters out of this place?
If Anni does not want to stay in the Presidential Palace, then we could ask the ex president Gayoom to stay there with an approved budget from the Majlis.
ReplyDeleteNo way. Are you crazy? We don't want to give Theemuge (or any other "palace" for that matter) to Gayyoom. We don't want to call him "Raees" even when he is no longer president. We agree that he should get an excellent pension and an excellent housing allowance and good security from the presidential security unit of MNDF and other related allowances but no fixed "palce' - and definitely not Theemuge!
ReplyDeleteDear Zayd
ReplyDeleteYou know that Bush is doing a good job just like Sappe did on DO, to inform the public. So shut your hole and be constructive.
I agree that Adam Zahir and Too-Too-Zahir has to be retired. They will have to go. We need less corrupt, fresh heads in the Police Force and the Army. We also need a fresh face at the Coast Guard. Coast Guard and the Sifainge Ekuveri Kunfuni (SEK) are the two most corrup places under MNDF. Say no to officers such as Zakareeyaa. We need to see Dhoonidhoo jail closed and converted to soem other use (probably a resort for locals or maybe some other use). The inmates could be relocated in some other jail, maybe Maafushi after releasing all political prisoners and sending the drug-related criminals to the rehab. If we rehabilitate all drug related criminals we could reduce our jail population by more than half. What an incredible saving that would be. Imagine the labour force we could create from rehabilitating all the drug-related-youths in our jails. So this will be a win-win for everyone!
ReplyDeleteHow about using Aarah as a residence for all ex presidents, we could build a few bungalows, keep 3 or 5 for the future ex presidents and juse the rest of the bungalows as a resort for the local Maldivians.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the palace, Y not lease the Presidential palace as a Hotel " The Presidential Palace Hotel" to recover the 60 Million dollars Gayoom spent to build the palace.
ReplyDeleteCould deposit shese monies in the Maldives Trust Fund.
Recession hits Germany. Other EU countries will follow and Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and 2 biggest in the world.
ReplyDeleteExpect a drop in tourist arrival numbers. Be wise, spend less and save.
Regarding the two “anonymous” readers who commented above. Firstly it is an interesting idea to develop Theemuge as a Luxury Hotel (by leasing it) and “recover the 60 Million dollars Gayyoom spent to build the palace”. The reader also said that we : “could deposit this money in the Maldives Trust Fund”. I guess this is an interesting idea that the new government could ponder over!
ReplyDeleteAs for the reader who highlighted the worldwide recession – especially the German recession – I would say that we have to indeed be cautious about this and that, as the reader suggested, we should “spend less and save”.
Thanks for the interesting ideas and points to ponder.
Hello Bush,
ReplyDeleteFantastic ideas!! On a different issue, there are many beautiful tiny islands through out Maldives that could be converted to holiday islands for both Maldivians and foreigners. But, the sad thing is that these islands are no longer the properties of the government. They have been permanently owned by some Katheebs who are connected to the cronies of the ousted government. These islands have been given for a small royalty. What they are paying for the government is just PEANUT!
I call upon the new government to take back these islands and do some investments so that the wealth of the nation could be distributed more evenly among the people.
Bushry, you sure kiss & makeup quick, don't you?Your earlier "misgivings" about the new cabinet seems to be history now.Or did you give up with sad realisation that you are are not the self-appointed advisor to Anni that you imagined yourself to be?Maybe you are just following orders from above & trying to create more "sensational" news to cover up the dirty tracks of the hooligans.I bet you approve of the joke of the state ministers lot that just got appointed too.Wait,I forgot-Anni&Co does not give a damn about your opinion!Stop deluding yourself&learn from your mistakes.Or chose to remain the pathetic puppet/instrument that you are. What a sad existence-I really do pity you.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the hierarchy here?
ReplyDelete1. Foreign Minister Dr. Shaheed.
2. Special Envoy of the President Zaki
3. Minister of State for foreign - Naseem
Who is senior and who is not and who is the real FM and who the puppet FM.
Hi
ReplyDeleteLook at what these selfish and power hungry thugs just did today. The new government just made the history today by appointing an unprecedented number of State Ministers! Anni, is this some kind of JOKE? Do we really need these many State Ministers? I wonder how this would reduce the burden on our budget. During campaign, they said they wanted a small government with a few Ministries, but what we have seen in the past two days is far from reaching the truth. This is bullshit! Where were those promises? Anni, Please don't try to fool us any more. We know what you have done, are doing and will be doing.
breaking news.
ReplyDeleteAnni offered the commissioner of Police post to Latheef. but he rejected it. He got a new promotion recently from Western Australia police. Hes promoted as the advisor to the western Australia commissioner of police. Latheef said he doesnot want to get involve in maldives politics.
close frnd of latheef
Yes that's what Australia needs from Latheef. Prisoner abuses experiences and all the inhuman techniques they use to abuse prisoners.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think we don't need so many "Minsiter of State" positions. If we have a Permananet Secretary for each specific area under the minsitry, then we can have just a Minister and a Deputy. For example if there is a Minsitry called "Minister of Civil Aviations, Toursim and Culture", we could have three Permanent Secretaries for the three areas (1. Tourism, 2. Cuture, 3. Civil Aviations). Then if we have a Minsiter and a Deputy Minister that's enough. Too many State Minsiter appointments seem like "political gifts". This makes the government too top-heavy. Sad to see this happening.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I believe that it will be against the spirit of Nasheed's camapign promises if he were to use Aarah as a retreat for the president. I don't believe that Presidnet Nasheed will do that. He is too humble for such a thing. Let's give him some time to decide what his government will do with Aarah. I believe it will be along the line of leasing the island for soem commercially profitable investment.
ReplyDeleteOne reader asked what I suggest to do with the inmates in Dhoonidhoo if the island were to be converted to a resort for locals! Well those inmates could be moved to Maafushi or we could build a large, multi-purpose jail at Thilafushi or Hulhumale that will be safe enough and big enough to accomodate all inmates at all jails.
ReplyDeleteOMG,meemu atoll jaahil called shafeeq is also a minister..
ReplyDeleteKeep it up
How about Aarah be used as the main base for University of Maldives.....can build the campuses, lecture halls, labs, restaurants, cafe's, gym, swimming pool, other sports facilities and student homes and flats and all the amenities that an international University would need, Thus, attracting international fee paying students as well as local. This way it should soon become self sustaining.
ReplyDeleteI think Muna's idea about using Aarah as a University campus is worth brain-storming. Thanks for a great idea, Muna.
ReplyDeleteBushry I really think you need some help before you go nuts..., or maybe you will drive people nuts!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW how on earth you came to believe Aarah is suitable for the main Uni campus??? Just because someone commented so???? Don't you think having a Uni just next to Male' will further attract more people towards to an already "no good" place to live???? And why are you so much after Aarah anyway???? Do you really think there is no better place than Aarah to do such a project as a Uni????
Don't you think if we built a Uni in another area of Maldives.., maybe south or north or even somewhere else other than nearby Male' will help people to start a life in that particular area???? Once such a place is built far away from Male' then people will start moving towards that area just like people moved to Male' long time back...!!! Then we can build maybe a world class hospital so people again can have treatments and also even that will create jobs for doctors, nurses, admin people and etc..!!! Then we can also built/develop places like Post Offices, Police Stations, Radio/TV stations, etc which will create more jobs and will result more people moving to that area..!!! Once that place reaches to this extent then people will also start their own businesses like shops, saloons, coffee shops, cafes and so on...!!!
So BUSHRY.., I think now it is high time for you as a responsible citizen that you move on without this Aarah crap..!!! Try to come up with something innovative ideas.., just don't come up with ideas as it comes to your small mind…..!!!! I think as people said 30 years of dictatorship was enough now it is time that someone like you should realize people had more than enough by trying to survive in less than 2 square KM (Male’ – just in case you might not get this)...,,, From north to south we need to develop Maldives as much as we can and if we think from an ordinary person’s point of view I think the thoughts will not just end-up to somewhere where we literally waste all of our lifetime income to four walls at an unreasonable way..,!! So I really think you are not trying to think outside the box..!!!!
I think you should come up with ideas that can inspire people.., that can give people hope that once in their lifetime they might be able to ESCAPE to a CLUB in MALDIVES other than in Male’ because the Maldives is not only within this less than a 2 square km city….!!!!
