What should an ex-president get? (Gayyoom wishes that the word “Raeesuljumhooriyyaa” was part of his name - or rather his first name)!

The debate on the bill submitted by DRP-member (Aneesa) on the facilities available for an ex-president is being debated at the Majlis today.

Gayyoom (or any other ex-president) should / should not get the following:

1. He (or she) should get a pension or salary that is not more than 60% of the current salary of a serving president.

2. But the bill submitted by DRP proposes to give a salary to the ex-president which is equivalent to the full salary of a serving president. This would not be fair and certainly not sustainable when we could have more than four or five ex-presidents at a given time in about 20 years time.

2. He should get a housing allowance which is equivalent to the current rents in Male for a three-room apartment. At current rates this figure could be about Rf 20,000.

3. But he should not get a fixed palace (not Muliaage and not Hilaaleege and not any other palace or house. Just a housing allowance would be enough).

3. He should get a medical insurance package given for all civil servants. He should not be given an open cheque to get medical treatment form luxury hospitals such as Mount Elizabeth Hospital of Singapore. Just a good and comprehensive medical insurance and coverage in the best hospital in the country would be more than good enough.

4. He should get an allowance for an office and about two staff. At current rate this could be about Rf 15,000. But he should not get a large office complex and ten staff as the current bill proposes.

5. The current bill also proposes to call ex-presidents “Raees” (or president) even after their retirement. This also an indication that Gayyoom wishes that the word “Raeesuljumhooriyyaa” was part of his name - or rather his first name. Give us a break Gayyoom! He should not be given this privilege by law and nor should any other ex-president be given this title after their retirement.

6. What is with this guy? Even after 30-years of brutal dictatorship he still wants palaces and huge salaries and staff and titles from us. Why don’t you take your millions and go and live in Egypt.

  1. what is in aneesa's mind when she submit this bill to the majlish..is she hoping to get married with gayoom to enjoy the benefit and salary she proposed for ex presidents wife.. try to play something with Abbas or Anbaree..forget abt ur dream of being Maumoons second wife by proposing such a bill.

  2. What is wrong with you u Bushry? It is not you who decides..The majlis will decide..Dont forget one of the pillars of maumoon's 'dictatorial regime' is now in the current government. He is called Zaki

  3. hav anyone given a thought y aneesa doing all this coz shez been alvaz madly in love with maumoon.. no wonder her marriage didnt survive.. aneesa its time to shut ur system down n stop trying to ease ur lover's sorrow by handing him maldivain economy.. the best remedy to ur broken heart n his is get married n migrate to egypt..

  4. Actually Maumoon should be given Aarah to be made into a harem where we can all enjoin in the orgies he and his cronies of old put together.

Did Aneena forget to put this in into the proposed bill?

@anonymous 13:16 - it is actually Bushry, you and me who does decide in a fair system (which is ofcourse wishful thinking) The parliament is corrupt to the core and our say just goes unheard nowadays or was it always?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Majlis wil decide upon this. dont forget more than 40 % of maldivian citizans voted only for Maumoom.

    ReplyDelete
  6. so give him the 40% of the salary proposed.

  7. What about the living allowances and medical allowances for his 2 daughters and 2 sons. The should be taken care of.

  8. Have a look athe picture in this post of the blog. Gayyoom is sitting on ex-presidnet Nasir's back and making him cough out all the money Nasir "ate" from the state treasury. Perhaps Aneesa should include this in her bill. To make it compulsory for all sitting presidents to crush the ex-presidents and cough out all the money that they "ate"! This is what Gayyoom taught us and we should follow him and learn from him, and hence crush the bugger to get the usd 80 million and all the rest of the millions and stuff he took from us.

    ReplyDelete
  9. we hav an ex-president who didn receiv any of this.Didn Nasir deserve any of this b4.Why is this bill in the Majlis today, just because Maumoon is no longer the president.

What the hell,a salary same as the current president.Where on earth did she hear about this.Where on earth is this done.

I jus hope the Majlis decides Aneesa to be Maumoons 2nd wife as a result of this bill.

  10. Gayoom was a president in the previous constitution and does not nessasitate any recognition now. This is the first democracy and a new constitution. That is it.

  11. Did it occur to anyone that if we give all these "allowances" and "benefits" and medicals and accomodation and palaces and salaries and stuff to ex-president Gayyoom; we will have to, by law, give the same things to ex-president Nasir!

    ReplyDelete
  12. ... that means that we already have two ex-presidents whom we would have to "feed" and "pamper" if we pass this bill...and in a few years Nasheed could be another ex-president and in another few eyars ther'll be someone else!....Can we afford that?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dont pass the bill during this term. I think year 2014 MPs can decide on the bill.

The bill is not that important now. We have much more urgent things to do.

  15. mode:
you wudnt mind if we call maumoon "x-president", will u? Or shud it be just "president"? Now this is confusing. Suppose say som1 tells me (if after ths bill passes) "the president is selling fish in the market". Who shud we assume it is.The current president, President Nasheed, or the Ex-president, president maumoon.

  17. The subject matter is by nature a legal one, therefore legal thinking is to be employed. How things are done in US is not important.Name calling and sarcasm does not yield a credible conclusion.Legally speaking,if the Majlis passes the bills, the matter is settled no matter how nauseating that is for us.Similarly,if a doctor says you to take a certain horribly tasting medicine you have to respect that opinion, because the subject(treating sickness) is related to medicine and medical thinking is to be employed. You cant shout 'aarrgghh that medicine sucks'

Same goes to other issues. If the MAjlis okays a person to rule for 100 years, thats fine.Because we all have been treating the majlis as something divine

  24. Actually "@anonymous 17/11/08 17:12" we can cry havoc and throw the medicine away as well if we do a bit of minor research on the internet and find out that a specific medication might have some really bad side effects, in addition to the horrible taste. As can we go to another doctor for another opinion (which may totally differ from the 1st one). So your analogy is totally wrong.

And you do understand that NOT ALL of us treat the majlis as divine. If things go the way it is, highly likely we will settle for nothing less than anarchy. After all the majlis seem to pass all the bills without the say of the people. So common sense dictates that everyone turn to anarchy and do as they wish. Trick is not to get caught!

Believe me, sarcasm & name calling messed up so many things in a government that was under a dictator for 30 years. DO anyone? It does yield results, especially if you cannot take criticism. Some people just might not respect it as much as others BUT it still is very effective.

    @anonymous 17/11/08 17:15
Good bill, but that will never pass the light of day. After all when you look at it the cronies of today (majlis members & the cabinet) are more power and money hungry than the ones that were part of the Maumoon following.

Where is your proof? Where is the reference? It’s exhibiting absolute intellectual laziness that one makes statements such as yours referring to historical personalities, their actions without reference to sources. I’m afraid I cannot take you seriously because of that.

    You also said….
………. regarding how to become more fatter on the wealth of the people and then go and screw an 11 year old.

    I say to u……….
I want to let u know that I find this post of yours offensive. Offensive because of the tone you take and I also find this post pathetic because I can see that you are dealing about subjects about which your knowledge is rather limited and that as a result you are far beyond your depth.

    You also said...

I do pray that Allah Guides you to the truth.

  35. OK Jasmine ... let's use your tone then. And lo and behold I say to you too

... I don't need much related reference as proof. If you are so educated as you claim to be then you already know that I speak the truth. I should also add that during the days of the companions they would also pillage some villages of the 'kafir' and would terrorize and plunder the wealth from unprotected caravans that pass through the deserts. These, my dear Jasmine, are what you refer to as your glorious wars.

Now when you talk about my laziness, understand that there are a number of us who are actually better versed in your pathetic preachings and much more knowledgeable in the working of the religious fanatics who used religion for their own greed.

So please use your explanations and self righteous attitude with the ignorant. Not with people like us who actually use the God given organ called the brain to think as well.

I gotta agree with you on one thing though. But then you are agreeing with me as well ... that things changed for the worse rather than better. So in other words, we are actually no better off than when your companions lived and plundered!

But to get back to the topic at hand, I think again the crooks at the majlis are going to pass this bill as well from what I saw at the seating today. Well, I sincerely hope there would be some people with the common sense and sincerity to throw it out of the majlis. But that could just be wishful thinking.

Yet President Nasheed and the Parliament find it top urgent to implement laws so that the Ex Dictators lifestyle necessities/goodies are met to live a posh comfy life.

How do they set their priorities? Mind you the Nasheed Government came to power brandishing their anti corruption slogans and giving the public their well merited respect in living a THAAHIRU DHIRIULHUN. Hehe and the first thing they do is to mess up the priorities.

  48. My feeling is that Gayoom will never be satisfied even if all the MPs agree to offer him whatever the old lady Aneesa has requested.

Gayoom is now too old and he is more like a crybaby.

Moreover, when someone goes insane due to loss of a loved one or a very much loved palace and job, he tends to beleive that all the foolish things he does also has some sense in it.

We have to find someone who can offer some good counselling to Gayoom. After all he is our ex-president and we need to take care of him for the integrity of the nation.

As for Aneesa, she has to learn to accept the defeat or she may also end up asking people her own name.

  52. khalifah umar ibn abdul aziz (رحمة الله عليه) was once found by his wife weeping after his prayers; asked if anything had happened to cause him grief, he replied:

"o fatimah, i have been made the ruler over the muslims and the strangers and i was thinking of the poor that are starving, and the sick that are destitute, and the naked that are in distress, and the oppressed that are stricken, and the stranger that is in prison, and the venerable elder, and he that has a large family and small means, and those of them in the countries of the earth and the distant provinces, and i felt that my lord would ask an account of them at my hands on the day of resurrecton, and i feared that no defence would avail me and i wept."

  57. i am as old as maumoon's regime (was) and quite a while back i thought raeesuljumhooriyya really was part of maumoon's name. anyway i thought the title was synonymous with the man. with regards to the share of the nation's wealth, he should be given something, a pension or whatever you want to call it.During his reign, he chose to defame president nasir which was how he and his cronies see fit for the ex-president which of course was a very misguided and harsh decision. but humble me thinks we need to show respect for the person who held the highest post in the country. however, it does not mean he should get every benefit the residing president has access to.however, a leisure retreat, free medical services abroad, an office with employees with the wife and clan looked after by the government is way too much from the people's resources. so the point is, within the limits and boundaries of the law he should be provided for with something. this amount is perhaps the issue.

  58. island kido.. did u know...The veil signified a woman's self-respect and social status. Women of lower classes would often wear the veil to give the impression of a higher standing. However, prostitutes often wore a special headscarf in order to look respectable.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm pretty sure prostitutes never wore black body bags that covered everything except the eyelashes!

And if you take a look at all the "skimpy dressed" western women (in very elegant evening wear or official attire) you all love to respect, do they all wear headscarves to show their standing as well? I don't think so. Or are they all lost as well?

Or am I wrong here too?

BTW, Maumoon wept BEFORE the voting began and the results came in. Not after (least in public). Not drama? I was only talking about drama here - nothing else.

  62. @ Island kid – 17/11/08 – 23.12

    I say:
Pls re-read my post, I didn’t claim to be “… so educated”; for yr info I’m a mere student. You said … ... “I don't need much related reference as proof”. Maybe you don’t. That’s your methodology. I NEED PROOF, just as anyone who wants something more than heresy, and speculation. I repeat; information without relevant sources is nothing but unsubstantiated reports and heresay. You are intellectually abusing yourself, and your interlocuters to be satisfied with heresay and speculation. ( tho tho).

You are accusing historic personages of wrong doing –(pillage, terrorism and plunder). Is it unreasonable to ask for your proof? Muslims are taught that anybody’s character and reputation is one of the most precious things, and one does not caste mud at a persons character and reputation without solid proof. Fair play, demands this at a minimum. That’s why I asked for proof.

Further for every event one explores in history; Its obvious that; that event hadn’t taken place in isolation, but in context. This being so, I need both your sources, what they reported and the context in which events had taken place. In case you find it difficult to understand the need for this, let me give an example.

Historically we know that USA dropped an atom bomb in Hiroshima killing Some 200,000 mostly old men, women and children, in 1945. Imagine 1400 years from today when people examine this incident…….
Somebody could say that the Americans were blood-thirsty child killers, who killed tens upon tens of thousands of Japanese children in August 1945. – not quoting sources, or taking into account the context.

However what was the context of that slaughter? That the Japanese had forced USA to enter the 2nd. world war by bombing pearl harbour, in a sneak attack, and then warring fiercely killing hundreds of thousands, and obstinately refusing to surrender. This forced President Truemen to bomb Hiroshima to try and get the Japanese to surrender immediately so as to avoid hundreds and thousands if not millions more deaths. You can see why its so vital to know the context, if you are genuinely interested in the truth.

I think there are 2 - 3 points more to address in your post. However, I feel its not fair by Bushry because it does not address the theme on Bushrys page. Please forgive me Bushry; already for this post that’s not your theme. Since island kid is no stranger to my page, I invite island kid to the blog “ Maldivians for Islam” to read the rest of the reply. Regret the inconvenience but we must respect Bushry’s blog.

Pls correct me if wrong, and certainly Allah knows best.

From a financial point of view there are lot of alternatives. You see Maumoonu is demanding 75000 per month. Each MP is getting 60,000a month - a huge sum indeed. So let all the MPs give their opinions through a blogging system via internet. No need for Majlis building. An appartment complex can be built there. What do you say?
